Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has done a superb job turning the club into contenders for a Europa League place after they spent last season avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth, according to Chris Coleman.

Coleman, former Cottagers boss who is now manager of Championship outfit Coventry City, thinks that Hodgson deserves much credit for the turnaround in the club's fortunes.

"After winning three games on the bounce to stay up it would have been very easy to lose that momentum when August came round, but Roy took it on again," he said.

"He was given some money, but it's one thing having money and another spending it wisely. "The year we did well when I was there we had Edwin van der Sar to give experience and Louis Saha up top with pace and goals. You look at Fulham now and they have the same with a very strong spine.

"Mark Schwarzer has been excellent in goal, and they've got pace and goals up front with Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson.

"I worked with Roy when I was a player at Blackburn so I know how he coaches.

"We'd spend hours on the training field doing long, hard sessions to work on the distances between players and make sure the whole team knew their jobs.

"If Roy gets more money to improve again this summer they could stay in the top 10."
