Blackburn have appointed Steve Kean as their first-team coach and made assistant chief scout Martyn Glover the head of player recruitment. Sam Allardyce made the moves after the coach Karl Robinson left the club last month to be reunited with the former Rovers manager Paul Ince at MK Dons.

Kean has previously worked as assistant manager under Chris Coleman at Fulham, Real Sociedad and, most recently, Coventry. Glover has been with Blackburn for 11 years, holding a number of positions in recruitment and development with the academy and at the senior training centre.

"We had numerous applications for the first-team coaching position and Steve stood out above the rest through his personality, experience and knowledge of football at the highest level," said Allardyce. "We are very confident that he will become a key member of the team behind the team, as we drive things forward.

"Martyn has been with the club over a long period and has shown exceptional dedication to the task of recruitment. He has moved up from assistant chief scout to this new challenge and he is taking on a vastly important role, crucial to the future of the club."

The Blackburn chairman John Williams added: "Both Steve and Martyn have taken on positions of great responsibility and I know that Sam is very happy indeed with both appointments. The contribution of a club's backroom team can never be overstated and we feel we have an excellent team in place."
