Unlucky Webb to boss Swansea game

last updated Wednesday 11th February 2009, 11:37 AM
Howard Webb - Rotherham, South Yorkshire
Howard Webb begun his career in the Rotherham district and North East Counties Leagues and gained promotion to the National List in 1996.

He was a new addition to the Premiership List for the 2003/04 season after consistent performances in the Nationwide leagues.

Recently appointed as an FIFA official, Ref Webb, has also taken his next steps up the refereeing ladder with his Champions League debut just before taking control of The Charity Shield match between Chelsea and Arsenal.

Ref Webb said "I've never experienced any violence as a referee but then being 6'3" and 15 1/2 stone probably helps! "

Mr Webb's first game in the Premiership was Fulham's home game against Wolves back in October 2004 and after the game he was rated unfit by 60% of voters. Since that game an improving Mr Webb has reffed Fulham in 14 Premiership games and we have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 8. As the man from Rotherham was the ref for our wins over Arsenal and Tottenham and our draw at Stamford Bridge he had some saving graces but having contributed to three Fulham defeats on the trot last season he needs to boost his Fulham fan feelgood factor.

In the 14 games there have been 42 yellows, 20 for Fulham players, and three reds, one for a Fulham player and two for opposition players.

The last time Ref Webb refed Fulham in the Cup was in Feb 2005 when we lost 2-1 at Bolton :-(

Referee Stats -2008/2009

Ref Webb gave Fulham a helpful shove out of a poor run of results when he and his little helpers missed A.J. being offside for his first goal. In relation to ref's as a whole we need more decisions like that to rectify some of the injustices in the last couple of seasons.
