Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli was forced to withdraw from England Under-21s squad to face France on Monday.
The 22-year-old was enjoying his first call up to the Under-21s but suffered an injury while on international duty.
A statement on the FA's website read: "Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli has withdrawn from the England Under-21 squad to play France due to injury.
"The 22-year-old has, therefore, not travelled for the game on Monday 17 November at Stade Francis-Le Blé in Brest."
However, Bettinelli wrote on Twitter that he had had to withdraw for personal reasons.
Fulham will be hoping the issue is not serious enough to rule Bettinelli, who has made 11 league appearances for the Whites this season, out of Friday's game at high-flying west London rivals Brentford, who currently occupy sixth place in the Championship.
