Referee Dean Whitestone had been a goalkeeper in his playing days but changed direction to follow his father, Tony, a local referee.

He progressed through the lower leagues joining the League list as an assistant referee in 2001 and succeeded in getting promoted to referee level in 2006. Mr Whitestone is a serving Metropolitan Police Officer

He last refed Fulham in the EFL Cup 1-0 home defeat by Bristol Rovers in August 2017 when he booked three players all from Bristol Rovers.

He also refed two Fulham games in 2015/2016 a 2-3 home defeat by Burnley in March 2016 when he booked three players, one from Fulham Madl (f) 85 and the 3-0 home league victory over Sheff Utd in Aug 2015. There were no bookings for Fulham but he booked two United players and sent off another two in the 88th and 90th minutes!!

Mr Whitestone last refed Wigan Athletic in August 2019 when they lost 1-0 at home to Stoke 1-1 and he booked four players, three being Stoke players.

Last season he refed 38 games and dished out 112 yellows, just 2.9 yellows per game, and 3 reds. His busiest game in recent time was the game between QPR and Huddersfield when he booked seven players, five from Huddersfield.
