Leicester City have announced the capture of Geoff Horsfield on loan from Sheffield United.

The much-travelled hit-man has moved to The Walkers Stadium until the end of the season, although the move is still subject to Football League approval.

Celtic had also been linked with the Blades striker over the past few weeks but he becomes Leicester's first signing in January just hours before the transfer deadline.

The former Fulham man has already spent a spell on loan with Leeds in the Championship this season and was clearly down the pecking order at Bramall Lane having been transfer listed in December.

Now Rob Kelly has brought Horsfield to Leicester and the Foxes boss admits he is delighted to have landed a long-term target.

"We have been after Geoff for a while but we have not had the finances to do the deal," Kelly told the club's official website.

"He gives us something different up front. He has a physical presence, experience and knows the division.

"He's not played for a little while, so we will need to get him up to speed, but I think he will be a good addition for us."
