Fulham have announced the signing of Fode Ballo-Toure on a season-long loan, having completed the paperwork late last night. In the end, it was the best move available for all of the parties.
AC Milan had been in talks with Fulham during the summer over a permanent deal and they even had an agreement in principle. However, Ballo-Toure rejected the destination up until yesterday, which prompted the loan switch.
Fulham are expected to cover the player’s entire salary (only €1m per season net) and this will save Milan some money for the current season.
It remains to be seen if a permanent deal will be worked out with Fulham after the loan, but the player is not expected to return to San Siro.

The Club is delighted to confirm the arrival of Fode Ballo-Toure from AC Milan.
A 26-year-old left-back, Ballo-Toure has signed on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
Tony Khan said of the signing: “We also welcome Fode Ballo-Toure this evening, joining the Club on loan from AC Milan.
“He's a talented left-back with great experience, and his arrival will strengthen the depth of the squad.
“We’re pleased that Fode has joined Marco’s squad and is ready to compete for us in the Premier League.
“Come on Fulham!”
Ballo-Toure came through the youth system at Paris-Saint Germain, but made his senior breakthrough after moving to Lille.
His performances in the first half of the 2018/19 season would go on to help Lille to a runners-up spot in Ligue 1, but also paved the way for an €11m move to Monaco in the January.
After two-and-a-half years, and 74 appearances which yielded eight assists, Ballo-Toure sampled a new league with Milan in Serie A.
Within his first year he had a league title to his name, following that up with a run to the Champions League Semi Finals last season.
Born in France, Ballo-Toure qualifies for Senegal through his mother, making his international debut in 2021, before helping them to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in their history the following year.
He now has 15 Senegal caps to his name.
