Fulham have agreed to sell full-back Denis Odoi to Club Bruges for €700,000.
The deadline day transfer, confirmed late into the night brings to an end six years of service at Craven Cottage for the Belgian right back.
Odoi was signed for €700,000 from Lokeren in 2016 and has played a part in two promotions, making more than 150 appearances for the club.
This season he had stepped in to cover for Dutch international right back Kenny Tete during his injury absences and had performed well. He scored one goal and made four assists, and his overall form had kept Tete out the side even after his return to fitness.
Fulham FC statement
We can confirm that Denis Odoi has departed the Club after five-and-a-half years of excellent service.
He returns to his native Belgium to join Club Brugge for an undisclosed fee.
Denis arrived in SW6 ahead of the 2016/17 season and made an immediate impression on the Fulham faithful with a stunning piece of skill on his debut against Newcastle United, using his back to control the ball and beat his man.
Odoi played 33 times in his maiden campaign in London as the Whites reached the Championship Play-Off Semi-Finals, before playing an even more significant role as we won promotion the following year.
The versatile defender made 43 appearances as we returned to the Premier League, and certainly had an eventful Play-Off campaign.
His header in the Second Leg against Derby County will forever live in the memory of those present as one of the great Craven Cottage moments, but he had a long 20 minutes in the Wembley dressing room after being sent off in the Final!
When the whistle went, Odoi led the celebrations, famously clambering atop the crossbar in front of the White Wall.
Odoi continued to rack up the appearances in the Premier League, before playing a key role as we won the Play-Offs again in 2019/20, coming off the bench in each leg against Cardiff City, before playing 110 minutes of the Final against Brentford.
Run-outs were not as frequent back in the top flight, but Odoi has been a regular again this time around, sharing the right-back slot with Kenny Tete and contributing plenty at both ends of the pitch.
An ultimate professional, Odoi always gave 100 per cent regardless of his role in the team, while his efforts off the pitch in supporting the Fulham Foundation have been overwhelming.
The definition of a cult hero, Odoi departs having played 177 times, scoring seven goals and laying on eight assists.
Everyone at Fulham would like to thank Denis for his monumental efforts during his time at the Club, and we look forward to welcoming him back at Craven Cottage any time.
"Denis has been a key player in our squad since he arrived in the summer of 2016, and he’s been part of some great moments at the Club over the years," Tony Khan said.
"It’s been a tough decision, but one that is good for Denis and his future, and I know he’ll be a success at Club Brugge.
"I want to thank Denis for his commitment to the Club and for his friendship, he’ll be missed!"
