Aleksandar Mitrovic completed a surprise deadline day loan move to Fulham.
The Newcastle striker saw a deal to former club Anderlecht collapse earlier on Wednesday.
But Fulham have now stepped in to sign Mitrovic until the end of the season.
Anderlecht failed to offload one of their own players in order to raise funds for the switch, leaving the 23-year-old to think he would be remaining at St James' Park until the summer.
Mitrovic has endured a poor season under Rafa Benitez, scoring just once in six Premier League appearances.
He’s been at Newcastle since 2015 after joining from Anderlecht in a £13million deal.
But Mitrovic has been unable to replicate the form that made him a crowd favourite in Belgium.
The 23-year-old netted 28 times in all competitions during his final season at Anderlecht.
Fulham FC statement
The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Aleksandar Mitrovic , 23, on loan from Newcastle United for the remainder of the season, subject to deadline day clearance.
The Club saw off competition from Premier League and Championship clubs to secure the established striker’s signature.
A powerful, robust frontman, Mitrovic began his career in his homeland with Serbian giants FK Partizan, making his professional debut with their affiliate club FK Teleoptik.
Despite his tender age, Mitrovic was top scorer for Partizan’s first team in 2012/13 as they claimed the title, and his form soon attracted the attention of Belgian outfit Anderlecht, who broke their transfer record to sign him in the summer of 2013.
His debut season in Belgium was a prolific one, as he netted 16 times to help his new employers win the domestic title.
Mitrovic was in even better form the following term as he scored 23 goals, prompting Newcastle to part with a reported £13m for his services.
He quickly endeared himself to the St James’ Park faithful with his wholehearted displays, and ended his first season on Tyneside with nine Premier League goals to his name in the Magpies’ ultimately unsuccessful battle against relegation.
Mitrovic hit double figures for club and country last term, and also netted in his first two appearances for Newcastle at the start of this season.
In the summer of 2013 he was awarded his first cap for Serbia, and he currently boasts a record of a goal every three games, netting 11 times in 33 appearances.
Director of Football Tony Khan said: “I’m thrilled to welcome Aleksandar to the Club. He is a talented player who has already amassed an impressive record at the highest levels of the game.
“We’re looking forward to him joining the Fulham squad and helping us build towards our ultimate goal of promotion this season.”
