Fulham star Sava starts mask fad at Charlton

Charlton are trying to turn the tables on Fulham's Facundo Sava by giving their fans red masks to wear in goal celebrations when they play his team on Sunday.

The Argentine striker has made his mark on the Premiership by continuing a tradition he started in his homeland of donning a Zorro mask sometimes after scoring.

He first did it in England when he got the only goal in a game against Charlton last October and now they are hoping to get their own back.

The club have arranged to hand out 4,000 red Zorro-style masks to their supporters before the two teams meet in the FA Cup fourth round at Loftus Road.

But Sava is pleased they are joining in the fun. He said: "It is incredible if they are doing that. I think it will make the game a great spectacle and leave everyone happy but I hope they do not get to wear them."

Charlton goalkeeper Dean Kiely had another idea. "I suppose we could give one to Sava without the eyes cut out or something," he said. "But it's all a bit quirky and fun and will put a smile on people's faces." Sava is no expert on the FA Cup and says there is no equivalent in Argentina, but he has been told how important it is to supporters here.

He only learned recently of his compatriot Ricky Villa's famous Cup Final goal for Tottenham against Manchester City in the 1981 replay. The 28-year-old, who signed from Gimnasia la Plata for £2million last summer, said: "I hope I can score a goal like he did. I am feeling very good and a lot more comfortable on and off the pitch.

"I think I am playing a lot better than I was when we played Charlton before because I know my team-mates and the manager better.

"I know they are playing better too but I think if we can do as well as we did to beat Middlesbrough 1-0 last Sunday we can win through."
