Referee Geoff Eltringham, 36, a talented footballer in his youth and, after leaving school, decided he still wanted to be involved in the game and thought refereeing was the best way to do that.

He came through the Russell Foster Tyne and Wear Youth League, Northern and UniBond leagues and then, the Blue Square North and Blue Square Premier, being promoted to the National List of Referees in 2009. In 2016 he was appointed to the new elite group of full-time referees to officiate at Championship matches.

The last time Ref Eltringham bossed a Fulham game was in January 2018 for the 1-0 win at Middlesbrough. Mr Eltringham booked seven players, three from Fulham, Johansen (13,f), Fredericks (57,f), Odoi (60,f) and more importantly he gave Fulham a penalty in the 95th minute which Oliver Norwood converted.

Prior to the Boro game Ref Eltringham bossed our home draw against Bolton Wanderers, in October 2018, when he yellow carded five players, four from Bolton and Kevin McDonald for dissent in the 84th minute. McDonald then went on to provide the cross for Cairney's last minute goal.

Mr Eltringham refed two Fulham games in the previous season, 3-1 home victory over Ipswich in which he yellow carded three Fulham players, McDonald (37,f), Ream (74,f), Malone (90,f), and one Ipswich player, Chambers (85,d).

Earlier in the season he bossed the 1-1 home draw against Sheffield Wednesday when he booked 4 Wednesday players and two Fulham players, Johansen and a certain Scott Parker both for fouls.

Mr Eltringham last reffed Sheffield Wednesday in September 2018 in their 2-2 home draw with Stoke when he yellow carded one player, Bannan of Sheffield Wednesday.

Last season Mr Eltringham reffed 37 games and dished out 125 yellows, so an average of 3.4 yellows per game, and an average 5 red cards.

His busiest game in recent times was the game between Sheff Utd and Derby in December 2018 when he booked three United players and five Cardiff.
