Fulham defender Brede Hangeland says that new manager Felix Magath has implemented a sterner coaching style as his side fight against the drop.
The Cottagers are rooted to the foot of the table on 24 points, four short of 17th-placed Crystal Palace, but a 1-0 win over Newcastle has given them new hope of survival.
Magath, who was a shock replacement for Rene Meulensteen in February, claimed his first Premier League win after collecting just one point from his opening three games in charge.
The former Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg boss is Fulham's third manager of the campaign and Hangeland admits that it has been a turbulent year for him and his team-mates.
"Many things have happened behind the scenes which I don't want talk about," he told VG.
"When we have had three different coaches in one season, things have not been particularly stable."
Speaking of Magath's coaching style, Hangeland said: "He is a tough coach, fairly strict.
"It is quite different to what you are used to in an English club. If it works, it's great.
"We train substantially tougher, we train more and have less free time. It's more German discipline."
Hangeland also bemoaned Fulham's injury worries as one of the reasons for their struggle, having endured a stop-start season himself due to a number of problems.
"There have been many health-related issues and other things," he said.
"I could have written a book about this season. It has been a memorable season, in a negative sense.
"I have been lucky to have not been injured or required any surgery in 12 years. It had to come sooner or later.
"I hope that will be all and that I will not have any more injuries in the remainder of the season."
