Callum Stewart is putting his skills to a top-flight test after heading from Histon to Premier League side Fulham for a three-day training session.

The defender broke into the Stutes' first team in December and has made four starts and four substitute appearances this term.

And he has caught the eye of Fulham's head of talent ID and recruitment Malcolm Elias - the man who discovered Theo Walcott - and is training with the Cottagers' under-19s this week.

But Histon manager Alan Lewer is not expecting Roy Hodgson's side to come knocking at their door with an offer for the young centre-back.

"Callum has gone down there for three days' training," said Lewer. "Malcolm's seen him play a couple of times and has been asking me about him.

"He's gone there to train with their under-19s and to see if he can cope with that, and Fulham will see if they like him.

"Callum was at Ipswich before he joined us and he enjoys the full-time training, but I wouldn't read too much into it."

Elias certainly has an eye for talent as he spotted Arsenal and England winger Walcott, who was aged 11 at the time, playing schools' football during his time at Southampton.

He also nurtured Gareth Bale and Kenwyne Jones, who are now at Tottenham and Sunderland respectively, at St Mary's.

And the scout, who has worked at Liverpool, Swansea and Oxford United, helped the likes of Martin Keown, Mark Wright and Garry Parker turn professional.
