Fulham striker Matt Smith was on the scoresheet once again for Bristol City as they reached the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final with a 5-3 aggregate win over Gillingham after the sides drew 1-1 at Ashton Gate in the second leg of their semi-final.

Fulham loanee Smith, who scored all four goals in their 4-2 Southern Area final first-leg victory settled their progress with a first-half header, his seventh goal in three meetings with the Gills this season.

The 25-year-old will not be available for the final as his loan spell from Fulham will have expired by then and cannot be extended.

Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill admitted after the match that the loss of forward, who has scored 10 goals since joining the club, will be a blow but revealed that he has been invited to travel to Wembley with the squad for the Wembley showpiece.
