Referee Dean Whitestone had been a goalkeeper in his playing days but changed direction to follow his father, Tony, a local referee.
He progressed through the lower leagues joining the League list as an assistant referee in 2001 and succeeded in getting promoted to referee level in 2006. Mr Whitestone was a Metropolitan Police Officer for some 16 years before joining the Referee Select Group 2 for the 2019/20 season
Mr Whitestone last refed Fulham in September 2020 during the League Cup game away at Ipswich. Fulham won 1-0 with a first half goal from Aleksandar Mitrovic. Mr Whitestone kept his cards in his pocket.
Boxing Day 2019 was the previous occasion Mr Whitestone bossed Fulham, in the 3-3 away draw at Luton Town. Obviously keen to spread Christmas good will Mr Whitestone kept his cards in his pocket.
Earlier in the season he refed Fulham in a Championship game against Wigan in September 2019 which Fulham won 2-0 . Mr Whitestone booked five players including Harrison Reed and Aleksandar Mitrovic both for arguing with opposition players.
In the promotion season 2017/18 he managed our EFL Cup 1-0 home defeat by Bristol Rovers in August 2017 when he booked three players all from Bristol Rovers.
He also refed two Fulham games in 2015/2016 a 2-3 home defeat by Burnley in March 2016 when he booked three players, one from Fulham Madl (f) 85 and the 3-0 home league victory over Sheff Utd in Aug 2015. There were no bookings for Fulham but he booked two United players and sent off another two in the 88th and 90th minutes!!
Mr Whitestone last refed Huddersfield Town in December 2020 when the beat QPR 2-0 at home and he booked two players both from QPR.
Last season he refed 33 games and dished out 62 yellows, an average of just 1.9 yellows per game, and 3 reds.
His busiest game in recent times was the game between QPR and Huddersfield, in August 2019, when he booked seven players, five from Huddersfield, with the five yellows and one reds in the Reading vrs Coventry game in January 2021 coming a close second.
