Referee Matt Donohue started refereeing aged 14 and gained promotion to the EFL list of assistant referees in 2014.

He operated in the EFL for two seasons before hanging up the flag and concentrating on refereeing in 2016. Matt gained promotion to National League North and South in 2016 then to National League National and Premier League 2 in 2017 and then to the National Group EFL League One and Two in 2018. He was appointed to the new elite Select Group of full-time referees to officiate at Championship matches in June 2019.

Mr Donohue refed his first Premier League game on the 11th of May 2024.

He last refed a Fulham game in February 2022 when we beat Millwall 3-0 in the Championship. He booked three Millwall players and Aleksandar Mitrovic for a foul in the 84th minute. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Bobby De Cordova-Reid were our goal scorers.

Mr Donohue had only refed one Fulham game before the Millwall which was in January 2020 when we won 1-0 away at Hull. He booked five players four of them from Fulham, Ivan Cavaleiro, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Cyrus Christie, all for fouls, and Kevin McDonald for time wasting.

Mr Donohue last refed a Luton game in January 2023 when they won 2-1 away at Wigan. He booked five players, only one from Luton.

Last season Mr Donohue refed 35 games and dished out 138 yellows, so an average of 3.9 yellows per game, and 3 red cards. This season so far he has refed 35 games and booked 162 players, an above average of 4.6 yellows per game, and issued 3 reds.

His busiest game in recent times was earlier this year in April 2024 when he booked four West Brom players and three Sunderland players fininhing off with a second yellow for one of the West Brom players in the 43rd minute.
