Referee Matt Donohue started refereeing aged 14 and gained promotion to the EFL list of assistant referees in 2014.

He operated in the EFL for two seasons before hanging up the flag and concentrating on refereeing in 2016. Matt gained promotion to National League North and South in 2016 then to National League National and Premier League 2 in 2017 and then to the National Group EFL League One and Two in 2018. He was appointed to the new elite Select Group 2 of full-time referees to officiate at Championship matches in June 2019.

Mr Donohue last refed Fulham in February of this year when we beat Millwall 3-0 at home. Mr Donohue booked four players, three from Millwall and Aleksandar Mitrovic for a foul in the 84th minute. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice and Bobby Decordova-Reid finished the game off with a goal in the 87th minute.

Ref Donohu first refed a Fulham game in January 2020 when we won 1-0 away at Hull. He booked five players four of them from Fulham, Ivan Cavaleiro, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Cyrus Christie, all for fouls, and Kevin McDonald for time wasting. Ivan Cavaleiro scored our only goal.

Mr Donohue last refed a West Brom game just on the weekend,Saturday 11th February 2022, when they drew 2-2 at home to Huddersfield. He booked three West Brom players and two Huddersfield players.

Last season Mr Donohue refed 29 games and dished out 77 yellows, so an average of 2.7 yellows per game, and a slightly above average 6 red cards. This season so far he has refed 28 games and booked 114 players, an above average of 4 yellows per game, and issued an above average 8 reds.

His busiest game in recent times was earlier this year in January 2022 when he booked four Cardiff players and six Blackburn players fininhing off with a second yellow for one of the Blackburn players.
