Referee Matt Donohue started refereeing aged 14 and gained promotion to the EFL list of assistant referees in 2014.

He operated in the EFL for two seasons before hanging up the flag and concentrating on refereeing in 2016. Matt gained promotion to National League North and South in 2016 then to National League National and Premier League 2 in 2017 and then to the National Group EFL League One and Two in 2018. He was appointed to the new elite Select Group of full-time referees to officiate at Championship matches in June 2019.

Mr Donohue has has only refed one Fulham game so far which was in January 2020 when we won 1-0 away at Hull. He booked five players four of them from Fulham, Ivan Cavaleiro, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Cyrus Christie, all for fouls, and Kevin McDonald for time wasting.

Mr Donohue last refed a Millwall game in October 2021 when they won 2-1 away at Sheffield United. He booked four players, only one from Millwall, and sent off one of the Sheffield United players with a second yellow in the 54th minute.

Last season Mr Donohue refed 29 games and dished out 77 yellows, so an average of 2.7 yellows per game, and a slightly above average 6 red cards. This season so far he has refed 22 games and booked 88 players, an above average of 4 yellows per game, and issued 6 reds.

His busiest game in recent times was earlier this year in January 2022 when he booked four Cardiff players and six Blackburn players fininhing off with a second yellow for one of the Blackburn players.
