Referee Robert Madley refereed in the Wakefield and District League from 2001 and then the West Yorkshire Association Football League. In 2010 he joined the National List of referees in the Football League. Madley was one of the youngest officials to progress to the top-flight of English football when taking up a full-time PGMOL role in the 2013/2014 season.

He "quit" in August 2018 but was re-instated in February 2020 and in October 2022 he was promoted back to the Premier League.

The last time Referee Robert Madley bossed a Fulham game was on the 2nd of December 2017 when we lost 3-1 away at brentford. Neeskens Kebano scored our only goal. Mr Madley was a bit busier booking four Fulham players, all for fouls, and one brentford player. He then went on to help us further by sending off Denis Odoi in the 53rd minute for a second yellow.

Nearly a year earlier Mr Madley refed us in February 2017 in the FA Cup 3-0 home defeat against Tottenham. Madley kept his cards in his pocket.

Prior to the Tottenham game referee Robert Madley last bossed a Fulham game on the 5th November 2014 in the 2-2 home draw with Blackpool. He booked two Fulham players, Christensen and Parker for fouls, he also booked three Blackpool players with another one being sent off in the 41st minute.

Preston last had the pleasure of being bossed by Ref Madley just last month, August 2024, when they were beaten 2-0 at home by Sheffield United

Last season he refed 27 games and dished out 124 yellows and 5 reds, an above average rate of just about 4.6 yellows per game

His busiest game recently was the Stoke vrs Plymouth game in April last season when he booked seven players, three from Stoke and four from Plymouth.
