Freiburg's summer signing from Fulham Sascha Riether insists he is pleased to be back in his homeland and looking forward to the new season.

Riether secured a move back to Freiburg this summer after seven years away from the club, following relegation from the Premier League with Fulham.

The 31-year-old began his career with the Bundesliga side before moving on to Worlfsburg, Cologne and finally Fulham but he insists he is glad to be back 'home'.

The former Germany international has revealed that he has now been looking to try and work closely with the younger players to pass on his experience.

Riether said: "You always just have to survive a training camp. You've got to try and get involved in every exercise and remain injury free. It's crucial to work on laying the foundations for the upcoming campaign.

"I am a Freiburger, grew up here, had some fantastic years here and have learned a lot during that time. I've been away for seven years and am now a few years older.

"I'm not the young Sascha anymore, but I will always try to give my best and hope to impart some of my experience on the younger members of the squad. Perhaps that way I'll be able to help those who still have a long way to go in their careers."
