Fulham midfielder Sean Davis thanked boss
Jean Tigana for providing him with the opportunity to play for England Under-21s.
Davis believes it is because of Tigana he made his England Under-21 debut
on Friday in the 4-0 defeat of Finland in the European Championship qualifier
at Oakwell.
The 21-year-old has been an integral part of the Cottagers' drive for the
Division One title and with it the aim of promotion to the Premier League
.
"When I first heard Jean was coming in I wasn't too sure about my own situation
- but then no one knows whether they are going to be liked or not," said
Davis. "But we've since learnt he likes good, young players which has helped
me and the rest of the academy boys down at Fulham. "He gave me my chance
at the start of the season and I've taken it with both hands, and what's
helped is that Jean used to play in the same position as me - holding midfielder.
"It's been a benefit to me as he always gives comments and tips, which has
instilled a lot of confidence in me and made it an enjoyable season. "But
then he has instilled confidence in the whole team, although it's not just
been about playing good football, it's the training methods, the diet -
everything is professional. "I'm not saying it wasn't last season, it's
just that it has now moved up a level. But it's down to him my career has
taken off. "It's been an added bonus Jean has come in and done such a good
job because if Fulham had not been doing so well then I think I would have
been overlooked.
"I felt playing for the England Under-21s had passed me by and I'd never
really given it much thought. "But hopefully we will be in the Premier League
next season playing against the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and
Chelsea every week, and that will only help my international prospects further."
