- Been awarded four penalties in Premiership matches this season. Only Liverpool have been awarded that many. Fulham have converted three, Liverpool two.
- Fulham have recorded one win in six games, five of which have been in the Premiership. Defeat here would see the Saints leapfrog them in the Premiership table.
-
This will be their first away game after four at home in which they drew with Hadjuk Split, beat Charlton 1-0, held Manchester United but could have won had Malbrangue converted the delayed penalty due to Barthez' gamesmanship and lost midweek to a 90th minute Paulo Di Canio penalty when defender Zat Knight was sent off.

Head to Head
|
- The Cottagers are yet to beat Southampton in the top flight and travel to Hampshire in search of their first away win over the Saints in 67 years.
-
The spoils were shared in last season's corresponding fixture with two early goals. Steve Marlet capitalised when Saints keeper Paul Jones made a hash of a routine clearance. Rory Delap equalised with a moment of sheer brilliance, controlling the ball, then firing home with a crisp right foot volley.
- That draw was the first ever Premiership meeting between Southampton and Fulham at St Mary's and first League meeting at Southampton in 25 years.
-
The Saints hold a 14 match unbeaten home League run against the Cottagers, 11 of which have been won.
-
Fulham's only League maximum in 24 visits to Southampton was 1-2 in the former Second Division on 26 October, 1935.
-
The last player to bag a hat trick in this identical fixture was Frank Dudley. He scored three of Southampton's goals in the 5-3 victory on 27 December, 1952 in the former Second Division.
-
Southampton have failed to score just once in a League game with Fulham. That was the goalless draw at the Dell on 21 December, 1974 in the old Second Division.

Matchday Referee: Mark Halsey - Welwyn Garden City
Mark Halsey enjoyed a fairly meteoric rise to the Premier League referees list having only taken up the profession in the 1988/89 season. The 41-year-old self-employed driver - or white van man - caught the refereeing bug in the Hertfordshire County League, before joining the football league as a linesman in 1993.
Halsey came into the Premiership with a reputation as a lover of injury time. He was in charge of the 1998/99 Division Two play-off final in which Manchester City scored in the 95th minute to equalise with Gillingham, before winning the match on penalties.
His first season in the top flight was relatively controversy free, averaging 3.1 bookings per game in the 16 matches he took charge of. Since then, Halsey has become one of the league's most respected referees and took charge of over 20 matches last season.
(Ed. In his 5 games so far this season Mr. Halsey is issuing yellows at a slower rate than last season. His last Fulham game was the 3-2 home win over Spurs in September when he tried his hardest to avoid giving us a penalty. Last season he reffed Fulham at home against Spurs, Blackburn and West Ham booking Finnan, Malbranque, and Marlet and Melville, the last three all in the Blackburn game.)
