Referee Stephen Martin |
Referee Stephen Martin’s father and grandfather were both Football League officials and encouraged Steve to take up the whistle in 2002.
Mr. Martin’s rapid rise saw his appointed to the EFL assistant referee list in 2008 and to the National League referee list in the same year. After four years he became an EFL referee and has taken charge of over 150 games and is now part of the Select Group 2 professional officials.
The last time Ref Martin was in charge of a Fulham game was the 1-0 away defeat at Reading when he booked two Reading players and Fulham's Martin for a foul.
Prior to the Reading game he had refed us in the2-1 home win against Rotherham on the 13th December 2016
And in a 0-0 away draw at Wigan in September, he booked a player from each team including Denis Odoi of Fulham for a foul.
Mr Martin last reffed Burton in their 4-1 away defeat at Brighton back in February this year.
Last season he refed 35 games and dished out 78 yellows and 3 reds, so a well below average 2.2 yellows per game.
His busiest game in recent times was in February when he booked two Wolves players, five Birmingham players and red carded Robinson of Birmingham in the 53rd minute. Birmingham held on to win 2-1.
In December last year Mr Martin reffed the Nottingham Forest v Newcastle
game which Newcastle lost 2-1. Newcastle fans were not happy so they "trolled
" him on Twitter unfortunately a number got the wrong Steve Martin over in
Hollywood.
