A pier on the River Thames in west London has been renamed St Mary’s Wandsworth after criticism by anti-racism campaigners. The pier, formerly known as Plantation Wharf Pier, is located between the Wandsworth Riverside Quarter and Chelsea Harbour piers.

Anti racism campaigner, you mean. The lady is called Rachelle Ferron a producer of ITVs This Morning and Guardian journalist. She is helpfully also demanding a nearby housing estate with the same name changes too. Luckily, the council tax payers are on hand to pay for all the signage in the area to change so that’s alright then.

Even when in africa i watched fulham on m-net hosted by gary baily and john fashanue, looking at the cow shed and some times wishing i was back walking down finlay street even though it was 70 plus degrees ready to go out to ronnie scots the bull at barnes or the putney steak house, but alwa ys firs checking on ffc , and when back carried on werei left of , so just a few words onme slagging ffc of , mainly for MST , morty is a mate anyway.

Hey Bish, this got me reminiscing, it’s 72 years that I first walked through the hallowed portals of Henry’s Holiday Camp. Must be 75 years for you? Those schools dinners might have tasted like crap but they must have been full of nutrients. I wonder how many are still rock climbing and water skiing into their 80s? :))…..and arguing on-line, let alone understanding it all, or still being able to see the keyboard.

I just wonder if money-transferred players get preferential treatment on game time. Ryan Sessegnon deserves more time on the pitch and i think he should be first on the pick list because he makes things happen. What is so extraordinary and unique is that Sessegnon doesn't need huge amounts of pitch time to bed in like some players do. Players on a free transfer i think sometimes they have to make a quick impact in the modern world of managers who don't have a lot of time and patience. Sessegnon has answered the call of duty in a quick time of asking and he still shows those qualities we know he has but we thought he had lost. I like Smith Rowe and i also think that he will come good with a little more time and maybe the good form displayed by Sess will ignite Smith Rowe. Very interesting times at Fulham now more than ever and the likes of Muniz has stepped up but you can't rest on your laurels. Muniz will need to keep on improving and keep on scoring goals because Fulham fans want goals...
Replies
Maybe Sess is too fragile to play a full game. I doubt much will get Cod Rowe moving in any case. I emailed the club to suggest they invest in some greyhound apparatus and replace the hare with a Greggs sausage roll to put round the pitch to encourage the rotund dawdler to move. Or going back to an old Minder episode they could get Talbot on a modified bicycle.

If we can now go and beat Bournemouth and Chelsea with a run to season end against people we should beat(if we play like we did against Liverpool). This will shakeup the doubters and a lot of Fulham supporter. 4th is possible with this sort of run.

A good season, but could be so much more. Someone pointed out to me that we have taken more points from two matches against Liverpool than three against Ipswich and Southampton.

The good news is our replaying games, with the exception of Southampton (and maybe Everton - but we tend to get good results against them), are against decent teams. So we are likely to get more points than otherwise. 13 points from a possible 21 is a realistic target. Which would take us to 61 points, I'd like to think just about enough for a top 8.

It was good to see and hear quite a few plaudits from the newspapers and pundits regarding our performance on Saturday. Not totally fulsome, but a definite step in the right direction. Hope we keep it going and force them to acknowledge that we are now much better than our perceived mid-table status.

Hi Morty, Good game yesterday. Hope that our manager will carry on with the team of yesterday { if not injured} and also play at the same pace. Great to see you’re still out there in the firmament, nice to hear from you. I know what you mean and understand your reluctance to post with all the rubbish that’s churned out. It’s been a funny old season hasn’t it? Some great performances but some absolute rubbish, but that’s true of most teams this year. On balance a great season. Hope we make a European spot, albeit don’t really think we have a large enough or strong enough squad, but I don’t know much and you never know, we gave a good account of ourselves before. Maybe we’ll do it again. Take care, hope to see the occasional comment in the future. Cheers.

What a player Muniz is turning out to be and what a superb goal! That bit of skill to bamboozle the likes of Van Dyke was top draw but we need Muniz to score more goals. Another ten goals from Muniz this season might have seen a trade war for his services. As things stand Muniz is still under the radar but he is making waves. And he is such a nightmare for defenders to deal with. More goals, please!!!!!!
Replies
Owen, I like your style, I agree Muniz took his goal today with a touch of class, I believe your valuation of 150 million is very optimistic but you are entitled to your opinion, stay well.

£150m?? is that in Trump's fantasy football league? whatever he's worth - the lads will make Liverpool think twice about breaking the bank to keep Van Dijk and Salah! Fulham may have saved them £100m! Maybe they can spend that on Muniz plus the 50% Tariff as they have American owners - so £150m maybe is reasonable after all!!
posted by JohnC (Guest) - Monday 07th April 2025, 8:11 AM

Muniz shows great energy and willingness, but I wonder actually if Ryan Sessegnon would make a good centre forward. Good strong shot, he has scored a good couple of goals recently. Tough to mark, very experienced, and has a happy habit of being in the right place at the right time.
posted by peterjeremy - Monday 07th April 2025, 8:12 AM

He’s improving weekly no doubt, but don’t get carried away Owen with your enthusiastic pricing. You sound like estate agents that I have encountered:) on the question of Sess he’s wasted at left back, but this forward position, isn’t that how he was played first time around? Seems ideal for him. Muniz is currently ok at CF with Ryan in support, bit like a return to the Mitro days.
posted by Mortlake - Monday 07th April 2025, 10:18 AM

Muniz at CF with Ryan in support? Wasn’t that what we had on Saturday? I’m advocating Sess to be upfront at centre forward, actually at the expense of Muniz. He has the presence to be up there taking care of, and making a nuisance of, himself.

TTIN,has a good point. Muniz to me is an enigma, and I really can't make up my mind, whether he is a good striker or not, and I still feel that the jury is out. I thought that he had a really good game against Liverpool yesterday, but it is just as likely that he will have a very moderate game against Bournemouth. He could go on to be a top striker, on the other hand he could just fade away. At present full credit to the lad, who looked embarrassingly dreadful, when on loan to Boro'. Full credit too, to Marco, who stood by Muniz, when most of us, would have paid his taxi fare, to just go anywhere. Marco, as mentioned before is a remarkable coach and Manager, and we are so lucky to have him, and both Muniz, Sess, and Jiminez I am sure will feel the same.

Why oh why, didn't we play like that, against a crap side like Palace. I thought that we played extremely well today, and well done to Leno in the last few minutes, with confident saves. Ì worry slightly, that we might make European football next season, as we can do without that. My MOTM, just has to be Bassey.

Crap wouldn't have been what I said about Palace, but they are simply a side that we should beat 9 times out of 10. The match against them last weekend, just happened to come after the International break, and for some unknown reason, we just don't win those games. I was thrilled with today's win, but the last 15 minutes seemed to last forever, and was so stressful. I don't usually comment on referees, unless they are poor, but the man we love to hate Chris Kavanagh, I thought, apart from one foul on Muniz that he refused to give, had a very good and controlled game.

We created chances and finished most of them which we did not do against Palace where in the first 30 minutes we created enough chances to be 3-0 up before they scored. Starting with our best free transfers in a winger roll meant he was constantly making run into the box which our two strikers do not often do. We stopped Liverpool from playing and played very well ourselves. If we can play like that against Bournemouth and Chelsea a top five place becomes very possible.
posted by The Time Is Now - Sunday 06th April 2025, 6:13 PM

Craven, not meaning to be argumentative but if we should beat Palace 9/10 please explain why we have not beaten them at home for 10 years? They are a good side with a very good tactical manager. Marco is a great “man manager” but he always comes up short against a decent tactician. We do struggle to win after the international break though and I am struggling to find a single win after the international break since Marco joined us. As always though, our historic win today was due to a Liverpool team out of sorts rather than a great display by the lads. Well done Fulham - great job, very well done.

MST, you are of course right about Palace, as they seem to have a jinx on us, especially at CC. I Remember the first time that we were promoted under SP, our first game was against Palace at home, and although TC, scored a worldie we lost to a late goal from their full back, who's name escapes me. We do far better at Selhurst than at CC. You don't dare mention Palace, where I live, as most of my friends and neighbours are ardent Brighton fans, and Palace beat them both home and away this season, and I know that it really hurts. The ironical thing is, my hairdresser is a Palace fan, but we do however get on well, despite our rivalry! !

The press, and tonight's MOTD, will spend all their time telling us, that Liverpool had an off day, and were relaxing, because the title is already in the bag. If there is any praise about the way we played, I will be very surprised, as for some reason the media seem reluctant to give Fulham any credit. If Chelsea had beaten Liverpool today, they would be the greatest thing since Sliced bread, but Fulham will have been very lucky ! !

Palace have always been difficult to beat, especially under Roy Hodgson and that ultimate tricky player Zaha who we never seemed to get the hang of. Palace are on a fantastic run of winning games and most teams find them tricky to play against also.

This is more than any of us could have hope for. Having gone one down after 14 minutes we persevered and Sessegnon once again proved to be the catalyst with a typical well taken goal. A question of being in the right place at the right time demonstrating what a wonderful footballing brain he has and appears to have inspired the team. This was followed by two goals in 5 minutes from Iwobi, not before time, and Muniz once again getting on the score sheet. However, I am sure will change the team around with a few substitutes and the proverbial boot up the backside during the break. We must continue to press a shaken Liverpool defence and at the same time to ensure our defence remains alert.

Having suffered at the hands of Crystal Palace following an insipid performance we performed better at the Emirate. However, Castagne was the weakest link which added to our woeful passing undid a promising start. The late appearance of Sessegnon sparked life in the team and once again he was instrumental in providing Muniz with a well taken goal. Unfortunately, Muniz had previously missed a golden opportunity to put Fulham back into the game when he somehow planted a header wide from six yards. If only! Today, we meet the Champion’s elect which on paper is a certain away win. However, football is not played on paper and sticking my neck out for the axe I expect Fulham to get something from this game. We normally play well against them and with Sessegnon starting I believe we could see a more polsitive attitude from the players. The fans certainly deserve it.

The only way to stand up to bullies in a school playground is be tough and a collective effort. While it may cost me more, I really hope Starmer doesn’t become another Blair poodle and be tough to Trump, albeit only 10% extra tariff. Infact, I hope all countries will take the Chinese and Canadian lead and call Trumps bluff and apply the same mis-calculated tariff on US. If all countries stand together, US economy will collapse as their inflation will explode, their GDP will collapse as they won’t produce as much goods and their interest will not drop as Trump wanted but go up! Only a collective effort by all countries can avoid a collapse of world trade.

Think if we’re holding China and Canada up as role models it tells you all you need to know about some posters on here. Bottom line is that global companies have been taking the Michael for far too long. Trump was elected on a ticket of bringing jobs back to America and I say fair play. The Chinese have been buying up massive tranches of Africa where they can mine minerals with impunity with the help of corrupt regimes. It’s not a level playing field. Canada has been murdering teenagers who are a bit depressed and have asked to die. Britain could do with our own version of Trump. Can anyone honestly say they’re happy with the UK and the way things are happening? Is anything better now than it was 5 years ago? Anything?

Yes' time to give the boy wonder Sessegnon a full run-out in our team now. In Arthurian legend and stories the young and brave knight Percival discovered the secret to the holy grail and a kingdom was reunited. Sessegnon can make things happen like he did when he was here the first time and he has shown glimpses of what he is capable of and what he can do. Football isn't just about a ball at your feet, timing is also important and Sessegnon seems to have that knack of knowing where to be at the right time. Smith Rowe needs a mentor and somebody who can guide him in the right direction. But sometimes you can't teach these things because you either know it or you don't and i am not sure how much Marco can teach Smith Rowe. We need Tete back as soon as poss because Castagne is fnding it a challenge in stopping these quick guys down that right hand side. Castagne has been good overall but he has his limitations at right back. Ali shocked the world by beating the unbeatable Sonny Liston many years ago and i think we can shock Anfield and fans and steal 3 points from Liverpool depending on what team Maro puts out. We just can't afford another shocker and horror show by Pereira back against Palace.
Replies
I am happy for Sess and he is a player who knows the angles and he will turn up where he needs to be at the right time and place and it is pure instinct that you can't buy. I criticize Pereira a lot but today even he had a reasonable game along with Castagne. It was great to see the return of Tete second half and he will need this as a run-out. H Reed was unlucky with that shot after Marco had a good talk at him. We still need to be aware and cover their extra man in those spaces and we ball watch sometimes leading to Harvey Elliot having a free run and shot that hit the crossbar, you just know that it was going to be our day today.

Fulham FC has the oldest average age of players in the Premiership, it also has to smallest squad. If Antonnee Robinson leaves we are going to need a first class left back and Ryan Sessegon does not fit that bill yet. We need a midfielder to play alongside Sandre Berge in the would of Mullery or Murphy to drive our team forward when under pressure. Emile Smith Rowe our marquee signing at the start of this season is an enigma. We also need a proven goalscorer. Those knocking goals in the Championship include; Bojan Sainz (Norwich), Tommy Conway (Middlesborough), Joel Piroe, a Dutch International currently playing for Leeds and Josh Brownhill (Burnley FC).

Yes, the age of our squad is evident in the last week. This is a worry as it is so so difficult to bring young players in. They are either not ready, too expensive or simply not good enough. We have many players above the age of 28. While players are fitter nowadays, their physical level and stamina drop when you get to 30 regardless of your diet and fitness. The ones who play well above that age are really really good footballers like Willian and Salah. But they cannot run for you or at least for 90mins like Robinson. To bring our average age down and maintain the same level, we’d probably need to spend another £100m plus. I am not the club has that. So it’s a worried if we get peaked already.
posted by JohnC (Guest) - Friday 04th April 2025, 7:31 AM

Just to add - the club spent £70m on Anderson and Smith Rowe last season. We’ve bought some very good value for money players but the our two expensive buys, I think we have a buyers remorse!

If we can bring two or three class players in each summer we will get better. A little higher in the League each season using this method and we could eventually be challenging for the top of the League. Forest purchased a lot of players initially but now are on that method and it is not doing badly for them.

If at the start of the season someone had told us that we would be 8th after 30 games I imagine we all would have taken their hand off, or laughed ourselves silly.rememberall the complaints above lack of and of very poor signings. So in anticipation of a quick return to the Championship or at least a humiliating scrabble for survival we started the campaign, with very little optimism. Well I’m glad to say all the the doom mongers, me included, were proved wrong. However, success, not matter how small, breeds an inflated expectation and belief in beyond our abilities. All round it hasn’t been a quality season with an almost universal lack of consistency, it’s a couple of exceptions. We have been, I suspect, as guilty as anyone. I say that because I’ve watched us throw points away like confetti, however I suspect others are as quilts. The point is Marco and the team have done pretty well. I think the squad is weak, God forbid we’re we to qualify for a European place. There are quite a few questions like why Pereira every week. Why didn’t we sign a goal scorer. I love Willian but he ain’t our saviour. Brentford, Brighton, Crystal P, and Bournemouth all lose quality players and manage to sign more than adequate replacements, why can’t we? I have my fingers crossed that our luck will hold out but I believe all the aforementioned have better squads, with genuine match winners, than us and have every chance of finishing above us. Hope I’m wrong, but if we do qualify for Europe we’ll need 6 quality signings.

And we will make 6 quality signings if we make Europe. The income a club can make from competing in Europe allows for a much bigger transfer budget, and I’m sure Marco Silva will be first out with the chequebook. Look at the progress Aston Villa have made with new signings, such as Rashford, which they would never have made in previous seasons. Speaking of Rashford, and by implication Manchester Utd, the knock on effects of inflated budgets and egos and NOT qualifying for Europe are obvious too, with that club facing huge losses. How that club has got itself into such a mess must be a great story. But the likes of pundits like Gary Neville and Roy Keane, so quick to point out Man U’s failings, hardly had management careers covered in glory themselves.

This time last week, ourselves, Brighton and Bournemouth, were looking forward to a chance of a s/final spot, and places in Europe, and since then what an utter change. We lost at home to, Palace in the cup, then fell, not unexpectedly, to Arsenal, although close. Brighton lost at home to Forest in the cup, then crashed at home to Villa in the league, and worst of all I suppose, Bournemouth, who were playing well, lost at home, to Man City, in the cup, and then, last night, lost at home, surprisingly to Ipswich. So for three clubs who's hopes were so high 7 days ago, now all feel gutted. That's the ups and downs of football I suppose. If we hold, or even beat Liverpool on Sunday, all of those smiles will be back on our faces. In my humble opinion, it now looks like all of the three clubs mentioned, can now forget about Europe, unless we, or they, can put goods runs together, which in our case looks pretty difficult.

Most of us suspected we may not get many points off Arsenal. Liverpool and Chelsea. With a little luck we could have sneaked a point of Arsenal, lets see if we can upset Liverpool and Chelsea. We then have on paper what looks a run in full of points if we can play at our best. Too many ifs and buts here but lets drive the team onto a new phase in our history.

While I like to think we are no longer a Yo-Yo club bouncing between the premier league and the championship, we have become a Yo-Yo bouncing between border of greatness and mediocre! We go from one week talking about Europe or even champions league to a complete disappointment that we seriously worried about the quality of the team and squad, and even the manager as posted below. Most fans are disappointed by the last two games not because we lost but our inferior quality and tactics were clear. When can we get the consistency that is not a yo-yo!
Replies
We have a squad mainly of ordinary players that Marco Silver has in the main got to play well above their expected level most of the time. At times however some of them show how ordinary they really are. I have sure Marco will improve the quality of the basic squad but this will take time. What I am saying is we must expect the unexpected most of the time.

Is the cost of setting them up and running them cost effective. How many of then end up in first teams. The market for players is now so huge that academy players cannot really compete and most of their product end up in lower division. We sing about of of our own so rarely.

Isn’t the academy is fundamental to Chelsea’s business model and worked (albeit you could argue they still sold some players too cheap) and made them hundreds and hundreds of millions! So if you corner the market, it works. But not if you go in half hearted, which would be like buying a few lottery tickets.

Of course football is an entertainment but if it is to survive it must make money as affectively as it is possible. That applies to the Academy as much any arm of the Club. Brentford got shot of its Academy and has since performed well above expectation using the money saved in a very effective way.

It would be nice if you supported the team, when we win, lose, or draw, not just when we win. Arsenal missed lots of chances, Muniz missed a header into almost empty net and scored from a deflected shot.

We have never won at Arsenal and that will not change tonight. Castanegne is completely out of his depth, whilst Smith Rowe appears to have forgotten that he was transferred to Fulham. Marco has set out a defensive formation with the aim to hit Arsenal on the break but poor passing has resulted in Arsenal rarely being troubled. Arsenal’s goal came when Robinson appeared to switch off allowing Merino to cut inside and tuck the ball into the far corner. We need to be more positive but, Arsenal appear to hold all the cards.

Is it about time we give Sessegnon some credit and more game time? Yes poor distribution but Sess always seem to know what he is doing. On the ball he looks around and he usually plays an intelligent pass in crucial areas and a good pass into Muniz. You just can't buy intelligence and Sessegnon has it in abundance. A few minutes from Sessegnon warrants man of the match in my eyes. That Pereira should never play for Fulham again...

After all the games, I am still struggling to identify Smith Rower’s identity in the pitch. I can’t work out another player like home. He’s got Berbertov’s (spelling) body language. He’s not a work horse or a combative midfield player like Gerrard. I can’t see him as a very creative player but he’s not in the league of de Bryune. He’s not a risk taker like many of the premier league creative mids as he passes more balls backward than forward. He can be a younger and an upgrade of Cairney but he has to get more involved on the pitch. I hope next season the real Smith Rowe will come out of his shell because as it stands, he’s not going to take us to the next level that we had hoped having spent £30m. I wonder if Marco will start him tonight to give him a bit of confidence! But I doubt it as Marco, despite he’s amazing way of rejuvenating players, is definitely not a sentimental manager.
Replies
I think Marco is trying to convert him to a defensive midfielder that will not work. He does not seem to like attacking central players as he has tried to do the same with Pereira.

Glen Hoddle, Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba France verses Croatia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Do you see where i am going here? This Fulham team needs somebody who can run and control a midfield and it is my opinion that our missing link is somebody like the above named players. Did anyone notice how many long and inaccurate balls are put in tactically by us lately? The art of doing a killer pass is the timing of when to release it and accuracy is a must. I am sure that there are players missing from this list and feel free to add on guys...

Pogba averages one good game a season so probably high on the Fulham radar. No distractions at all in London so he’ll fit in well.

As Spurs look to Glasner rather than Silva (don't blame them) our club need to look why our performances at home have been so poor and why Silva is unable to get past the finishing line at an elite level (Caraboa semi, cup qtr final). Perhaps it is time for Silva to move on, has he taken the club as far as he can go?

This seasons ffc and manager are the best i can recall. I believe that Just 3 or 4 inteligente adjustments we could continúe improving next season. Silva believes in attractive attacking football which is great if you pop in a few more goals.unfortunately i think its been one of those years where luck has avoided us more than usual, specially in pinball situaciones where he ball keep ending up in the rong side.

It was one of the most disappointing and frustrating days for a long time and i can't put my finger on it on why it happened against Palace. Nottingham Forest who we can beat most days are through to the next round and they have Man City which might be as far as they go. Maybe the Forest thing carries on from their famous history of two Euro final wins and the league with Clough and Taylor. We have not managed to cross those glory lines as yet in our history. Marco Silva will be disappointed along with our players and the thing is now to get them going again which is hard now we have the 40 plus points to safety. The season end can't come quick enough now and i am not certain if we should push for a euro spot.

Did I miss something, or did Newcastle win the European club Cup or something on a par, as the media are really OTT about the Geordies winning the Carabao cup, with wild crowds and full TV coverage of their win in the lowest cup competition all of them. No doubt they did well to win a trophy, something that we never seem to do, but to see such huge crowds turning out to watch their bus parade through Newcastle itself, is a bit ridiculous.

Do you not think we would celebrate if we won anything. Fulham would never be the same again if that happened. Since 1879 all we have ever done is lose important things. I would love to be celebrating Fulham winning something, just anything, but it's never happened in my Fulham lifetime, which goes back to 1947, so it's a long wait. Like this weekend, we always always seem to fall at the last hurdle, and it really hurts. Yes, we have reached two finals over the years, but came away as losers. We do have Championship winners medals and cups, which is good, but we need to win one major trophy. I must agree though, that Newcastle's celebrations were a bit too much.

Sad how we capitulated so easily yesterday but the season isn't over, it's not all doom and gloom. I will however point out my observation and it's Iwobi, when he plays well the team plays well and unfortunately yesterday he wasn't himself. I wonder if Marco shifting him in the system to accommodate others is wise? Personally I think it might be better to play him where he's most affective and build around him. I'd also like to see Sessenong play in front of Robinson, remembering his best performances were when in front of Matt Target. Still a possibility of our highest ever finish in the Prem, so let's hope for a bounce back performance on Tuesday at Arsenal. Keep the faith guys and stop being so gloomy, we're doing as well as we've ever done. COYW
Replies
Spot on with Iwobi. Playing him right wing is a waste. Should have been at No.10 with Traore on the right. Willian shouldn't have started either, he's an impact player these days Sess would have been better. Still a case of what might have been if every chance we had hadn't fallen to the wrong foot. Muniz, Pereira and even Robinson all had shots but with their weaker feet.

Ratings are from 'The Standard folks' and i take no pleasure or gloat about the ratings of Pereira which was the lowest rating of 3.' A shocker from the Brazilian. Missed a good chance, misplaced passes, and called Eze a diver when he had been fouled by Castagne. Not a good performance... That quote from the Standard. We cannot always rely on our wing play to win games and especially down the left wing. We need a marshal in the middle who can lay off passes all over and keep the ball release and tidy up when needed. Pereira is not our man...

Just remind us all Bish whilst you are still in your usual “slag FFC” post mode, how are Spurs doing this season???? I’ll save you looking it up, they are 14th - 9 (YES NINE) points behind the Fulham you slag off after every game. Can’t see them in either of the domestic cups. Oh yeah, they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Villa and lost 4-0 to Liverpool in the Mickey Mouse cup that Newcastle are celebrating like they won the Champions League!! We also took four points off them this season so why would Marco jump from a club on the up with ambition to join one that sacks every manager they have and has a fan base that is never satisfied. Bish, every post you make (no matter the subject) is always negative - you must be a barrel of laughs down the pub. Jeez man, cheer up or maybe take up supporting Spurs - you’d fit in with their fans just fine ;0).

Bish, like MST,I do wonder about you sometimes, and how quick that your are to criticise all and sundry, after we lose a match, yes, we have some very difficult games coming up, and it is obviously possible, that we might lose a few of these, but isn't this one of the big reasons why we have as a club fought so hard to gain promotion to the Premier League, so that we can pit our wits against the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, it's just a bit of a shame, that those two fixtures have come so quickly after a poor FA Cup defeat, but these games will really show how quickly we can fight back. Bish, you would probably be happier if we were playing QPR, and Blackburn in our next two fixtures. Just think about it, we are a decent, but not spectacular Premier League team now, who are doing us proud at present, so make the most of it, as there are plenty of clubs that would happily change places with us. Watching the last few games, we have played good possession football but we take to many passes in the opposite half giving the opposite defence to much time to get organised and make it harder to break down. Most attacks come down the left wing leading to crosses which we very rarely make anything off. We are getting to predictable. Marco is doing a brilliant job with the players he has but needs more younger quality players. I am sure he knows this I only hope the owner does.

You guys might agree or disagree with my post today for various reasons but i will give my tuppence worth. Pereira is a poor-mans midfield operator and today we can see why we lost this game. We lost this game after a 20 minute spell of decent possession and pressure and we got what we deserved which is nothing from this game. Congratulations for all the effort and white flags and what a fantastic turn-out at the Cottage to go out like that in a whimper. Pereira is not good enough to do that role in midfield and he certainly had enough of the ball to make something happen. Just watch the first 20 minutes and Pereira and you will know what i mean. We have plenty enough winger type of players to make a noise but in the middle Berge and Lukic might as well be playing on a bar-football table, we are too static and rigid and not enough vision and invention. Muniz caused them problems with his strength but that first chance early in the game tells us that our afternoon was going to fizzle out because we don't create and finish off what we started. No homework on Eze? How many times do we have to play against this guy to know that to never give him room to adjust on his right foot to crack one in like that? Andersen should know Eze's game, for starters. Marco Silva did not give Eze enough respect; all he needed was one chance, and he got it and rightly mom for the assist. When in doubt, go look at the record books and the record tells us that Ryan Sessegnon has form for making things happen, and maybe we should give him a start now for Fulham. I am going to ignore the posh snobs and suggest a player we have a possibility of getting, and he is age 32 and his name is 'Paul Pogba'!!! Pogba is coming back from his ban and i don't care about what phensic or how many paracetamols Pogba is having with his cornflakes. Does he know what to do with a football? Yes!!! Pogba or Pereira? All i care about is Fulham and we need somebody in the middle that can control a game of football without breaking a sweat. The job is too hard for Pereira who doesn't have a clue when to lay a pass off or can accurately lay off a decent pass. I have not watched the game back on television but i can honestly say that Pereira from the get go did everything wrong that you can do with a football, get shot of him!!!!!!!

Pogba I don’t think so,£300k a week for an individual that doesn’t give a toss would rather watch pereira although he’s shockingly bad. 70% possession 12 corners 16 shots statistics mean nothing(except for that one with goals in it).

I can't recall who made a run to their near post but Pereira put one over and he overdid it as usual which simply is not good enough. We obviously planned some of todays long balls into the box. Our problem is accuracy from distribution in midfield which is not good enough. Pereira' on the ball in the middle is hesitant and his lay-offs are not good enough. We had enough in possession the first half hour but not able to capitalise. They have one chance and they take it because we are not aware or switched on to the danger guys and the main guy is Eze. Before Eze it was Wilfred Zaha when Hodgson was in charge. We are a better team these days but the purchase of Pereira for 8 million is a waste, he is not good enough in that responsible and important role of ball distribution. Give him the ball in midfield and looking around he is a lost soul. Paul Pogba knows what he is doing in that role and he doesn't break a sweat doing it. WE can afford the likes of Eze his glory moment if only we take our chances and we have to admit we get those chances in every game but we often don't capitalise. Mid teams like Fulham don't get top midfielders period so we can do the next best thing and that is to get everybody's cast- offs and unfortunately it is the likes of Pogba who would like to find a way back into football again. We tend to do well with ex bad boy players...

Owen I get where your coming from,Pereira is a waste of space surprised Marco doesn’t play Cairney but the reason we lost yesterday was blatantly because we barely had a decent shot Eze destroyed us in 2 minutes of brilliance although basic defensive errors didn’t help when do we ever score from a high cross or set piece? Eze is well out of our price range he should be competing for trophies

Pereira is now not taking poor corners and free kicks, so what is he on the pitch for. Smith-Rowe tries more often to make progressive passes. Our two defensive midfielder are very good at that job but are wasted as attacking midfielders as they do not have progressive passing ability. Willian kept laying off balls for Berger, then making a run but never getting the ball back. People not qualified to attack were trying to attack without success, not surprisingly. Our centre back we making more attacking runs than I have ever seen. We fell right into Palaces trap and over-attacked so they could breakaway into empty space enough times to win, which they did comfortably. Marco put out a defensive team that kept attacking wildly, very odd. Has Silver got to the stage in his management career where the players are ignoring what he says and doing what they like.

Sorry for the lads. Probably the last chance we’ll get under Marco, who don’t forget has got us close 3 times in the preceding seasons.

Glasner and Palace were comfortable for whole game. We were punchless and easy to beat.

We attacked most of the game but could not score. Their wingers were faster than our attacking full backs so on the few times Palace attacked they had four attackers to our two defenders. Our two defensive midfielders spent most of their time attacking. Palace have won their last five matches because they have have a strong defence and a fast and effective attack. The Fulham players should have seem what was happening and reacted to it. We were over attacking and made it easy for them. If we had played a more boring defensive game we might have won.

We have not missed Mitro much since he left but we did today. They have fast and sharp strikers, we do not. Both our Brazilians missed chances where it looked easier to score. Close to us a boy kept a ball that had landed in his lap until a fan said this is not America and the dad got the boy to throw the ball back.

We are better than that Marco should have learnt from our home game against them last time saying that the boys have done well to get this far coyw arsenal next Europe here we come

Complete lack of ambition, home tie to get into semi final and we bottle it. A great opportunity lost, wonder what will happen against the arsenal bottlers on Tuesday night. I’m sure they will be up for the game, wonder if we will. Wouldn’t be surprised if Marco listens to Spurs offers now as he could probably transform them. Today could have marked the end of our season considering the sides we have left to play. Forget a top six finish, usual mid table I assume, and promises for next season.

Having dominated them play we are 2 goals down and I am left wondering why. Muniz was very unlucky when he beat three Palace defenders in the penalty area only to see his shot go slightly wide. How Wharton is still on the field is a mystery. I have counted at least 4 offences worthy of a yellow card and having been given a yellow card after a series of foul he chops down Muniz and the referee bottles it when he should have shown a red card. Palace then score two quick goals against the run of play which has probably killed our chances of going to Wembley. My heart is shattered and I imagine Marco will be furious.

Relative to the possession we have, we are pretty ineffective in the final third I would say. How many positive shots did we have and many saves was Henderson forced to make? Palace with probably no more shots on goal score 3. Tells it all. Regret we were outplayed today by a better team. I think also they have more individual quality and the better team, on the day, won. Pity but we move on. No shame to lose just disappointing.

What a very disappointing result, despite being the far better team, and outplaying this awful Palace team, we just couldn't make our class tell. We had so many chances to score, but failed on each occasion, Palace on the other hand had 4 shots, and 3 of them scored. Hence the difference. I do hope my local team Brighton will go on to win the final now. I was hoping for a Fulham v Brighton final, but that's football for you.

Iffy, I don't know whether you were at the match, but I was, and after the first 20 minutes or so, not only me, but those around me, were what we thought we were watching was a comfortable win, then out of the blue, Palace scored with an in off of the post goal. As I am quite close the pitch I could see Andersens face drop, and the wind was taken out of our sails. I'm quite angry about this defeat, as it should never have happened, as we should have put paid to this dreadful Palace side, and to think of this outfit playing at Wembley is so frustrating, and to watch this side in a Wembley final is unbearable thought.

This awful Palace team has won its last 5 games and its attack and defence looked much better than ours. They let the other team have the ball until the lose it and then they can break and score.

Apparently, they have Mateta back but they say that Mateta will wear a Petr Cech water polo helmet which will protect his head, i personally don't think he will be wound up and firing on all cylinders, just my opinion. We should have no fear of Mateta with our big boys Bassey and Andersen in there. Who should get the nod, Jimenez or Muniz upfront? We know that Jimenez had a decent game for Mexico in the Nations league and there are good reasons to start with him but i think Muniz could be a better fit to bully the Palace defenders and keep them well occupied and i fancy him to score a couple. Lukic will be back in after his ban and boy' do we need him in along with Berge. Yes' i have a few concerns from Palace and we didn't quite get a grip of their tricky players like Eze etc. Andersen had a n interesting time grappling with Eze when he displayed his impatient when Eze tried to bamboozle him and Andersen tapped his watch hand which was quite funny. The thing with Eze and all those tricky customers is homework and i say 'do your homework' on these guys. I feel that Marco will have worked out how these guys operate and turn or spin around in the box this time out and it will be a different story this time around. A game of football is played with tempo and intensity and it is very rare a team brings the same intensity and tempo. It will be interesting to see Marc Guehi play at the high level after the England game etc. 2-0 was a good win and we got beat soundly but i feel that with home advantage and a better knowledge of their game-play we should do better. 'Er' did i say home advantage?

Our game against Palace is a conundrum which,I for one cannot provide an answer. Our recent home defeat was probably the worst we have played all season when most of our players were inept, slow and appeared uninterested apart from two or three players. Yet when we met them earlier, winning 2-0 at Palace we dominated the game. In my opinion we have to be positive from the start with all players contributing their maximum effort. We need to use the wings and to ensure crosses are accurate to give Muniz and Raul opportunities to capitalise to score vital goals. Personally, I would start with Muniz as Raul may be tired after the International break. Muniz has so much latent talent that he could become awesome within two years time. Palace have become a team hard to beat and our defence cannot afford to fiddle around in their own penalty area or they will be punished. Fast attacking football is required as opposed to the slow build ups that have been prevalent in recent games. Let us see the long ball occasionally to encourage the wingmen to use their speed and the midfield, with Lukic back, to add extra support. A slow start will provide Palace with the incentive to attack us with the speed down the left flank providing ammunition for the front two. Whatever happens, let us give a good account of ourselves as the team owe the loyal fans a performance which will ensure we progress further in that venerable trophy, the FA Cup.

No super-sub in Harry Wilson this time who went through a midas touch period when he could not stop scoring coming off the bench, Wilson is still out long term. We forget about Reiss Nelson who is still out long term and i keep saying this, we must find a way to get Smith Rowe engaged in the game. Interestingly enough, when we beat them 2-0, Smith Rowe had one of his better games. It is all over to Marco Silva and tactics now, and all i will say is 'in Marco we trust!!! COME ON FULHAM!!!!!

Like most football games it is difficult to forecast. We keep thinking we are playing consistently then we fall back to mediocrity, which of these Fulham team will turn up. If we underestimate them we will probably loose as they are one of the top form teams. Play at our best and we will win.

I think some of you will wonder what the hell is glossophobia? well its simply a fear of public speaking in work environments such as meetings! WOW! no wonder we have 40% people disabled in this country. And no wonder why some of our young people don't develop and grow up. How long before we should classify shyness as a form of disability?!

WHY is this england team so insipid,? passes go astray , the ball goes back wards more time than forward, no one can shoot unless they are 5 yards away from goal,no one seems to interested, bellingham still a red card waiting to happen still rely on kane to start up front, no flair no humour cant even laugh at it. And to really annoy me sam matterface rambling or screaming mindless dribble though out the game almost as bad as peter drury .And Tuchel just going through motions of watching but not sure who is what .

We won 3 0 which is all that matters. England will qualify easily but must play many all it friendlies against top teams so at least they get so experience of the level of opposition the will meet in the World Cup.

Fans don’t give a damn about the internationals. I am sure the players rather be somewhere else except for the fact that they are in the England team. Ben white was stupid enough to admit the truth. You can tell the players don’t run anywhere the intensity of a premier league match. Last night, I suspect many fans like me were watching. The baller rather than the England game. Not sure which was more boring. Time to revamp the international format. Or just let the ladies represent and have the England shirts!

I regret that I have to agree with all the above posters. The thrill and excitement which we used to associate with England’s matches has long since died with a succession of managers who have established a fear of losing culture. Players are not expressing their capabilities as they are obsessed with the fear of making a mistake. Last night we once again saw players incapable of making incisive passes or driving forward and releasing shots from outside the penalty area. Where are Gasgoines, Peters, Hursts and the Lion of Vienna gone. Players who wore their England shirts with pride and not forgetting our own Johnny and Cohen. The present crop almost appeared bored to turn up for these with the exception of two or three players. Tuchel will have his work cut out trying to reinvigorating players who just do enough but avoid sweating blood for the cause. He needs to be ruthless and refrain from overly friendly with the players and more of a disciplinarian in the mode of the great Alf Ramsey or Brian Clough. It may well be too difficult a task as the players have acquired a mindset of those people who no longer want to return to their place of work after becoming accustomed to working from home.
posted by bigboy4650 (Guest) - Tuesday 25th March 2025, 9:09 PM

Let it not be forgotten that all too often players return from international duty with an injury. With so much emphasis on winning at club level, what player, manager or indeed fan wants to hear that news. Players would rather forgo too much exertion, or even being selected at all, in favour of being fit for selection for their club.

I think there’s just too much irrelevant football. Crap opposition does not help. International football needs to be graded.
posted by Observer (Guest) - Wednesday 26th March 2025, 8:21 AM

‘Irrelevant’ to you maybe, but not irrelevant to the populations of Montenegro, the Faroe Islands, Moldova and so on. And also the international tournaments are obviously a showcase for overseas players to display their talents to club scouts. But in that way I agree that International should be graded. Fans of the Faroe Islands would have the opportunity to enjoy their teams more, just as Fulham fans did when we were in the promotion places of the Championship.

Isn’t it true that all football fans wish to see competitive games. It really cannot be any fun getting hammered year in and year out. At least adopt an FA Cup model, whereby the top teams join a competition only after the lesser Nations have played out the earlier rounds. Only the best of the lesser teams get to play in latter stages. Makes sense to me.
posted by Mortlake - Wednesday 26th March 2025, 12:58 PM

You’re right Bish insofar as second rate teams locking up shop and refusing to adopt any competitive approach, a draw being equivalent to to win in the World Cup, is the root cause of the problem. The fact that home Nations, seemingly, just don’t have it in them to form an effective team is a different problem. That said, England’s record, In recen years hasn’t been that bad. Fall at the final fence I know, but hey, invariably a semi final spot don’t seem too bad to me. Ploughing through the dross qualifiers is the problem.
