A stroll in the park but upset how our defence allowed them to score. Three defenders were in front of the goalscorer and none of them made any attempt to close him down. He was in acres of space and wandered across the pitch before unleashing a tremendous shot. I half expected our three defenders to break out in applause. Good to see Sessengnon back and hope he is given more playing time. For me the outstanding part of the game was the sublime goal by Muniz. Traore whipped the ball across the penalty area for Muniz to half turn planting the ball in the corner of the net. The execution of the move was so good I did not see it at all and only when the replay was shown did I appreciate the skill of the goal. With regular playing time I believe he could be a great prospect. Andersen scored with a great volley but apart from that he appeared slow and disinterested or was I imagining that?

If a player hammers a ball into the net from just outside box you just have to accept it. My only thought is Leno might have saved that. But we won handsomely so why worry.

At the start of the 2023/24 season, referees were instructed to improve the flow of the game by ignoring robust challenges which would have been classified as fouls in the previous season. At the time I said this was a license for thuggery, especially in the first five to ten minutes when referees are reluctant to issue yellow cards as it causes a rod for their own back. In many games this has proved true this season and the game on Sunday was no exception.with two Fulham players being clattered in the first five minutes, both of which would have warranted a yellow card. Ipswich were probably guilty of numerous “robust challenges” and even with an incompetent referee still ended up with five yellow cards. The incident where Wilson was bearing down on goal was, to say the least, contentious and in my opinion was a red card. Certainly, Wilson was a marked man throughout. However, I thought Ipswich were good value for their point as they copied what Southampton did and got ten men behind the ball denying us very few chances. It has become apparent our forwards are too lightweight and we are in desperate need of a strong striker who can bully defences in the manner of our departed Mitrovic. The ineptitude of the referee was demonstrated by our second penalty when Wilson was once again on the end of a nasty foul, inside the box, which he totally ignored until being instructed to go to the monitor. I suppose that unlike Stammer, he is not provided with free spectacles. As an aside, my wife who supports Spurs, but has only been once when they recently played Liverpool, took our grandson to the game on Sunday as our son was working. She texted me stating there was no justice. Actually, this was her second visit to me Cottage, the previous one was when I took her and Frank Large was our centre forward. Well we have extended our unbeaten run but have probably dropped ten points in the process

It has improved the flow of the game but referees cannot see everything and is bound at times by to give free kicks when players are touched and throw themselves to the ground screaming in pain as if they have been shot. Other time high tackles and penalties will be missed. On balance the game has been improved by the change in procedure.

TTIN, agreed the game flows better but it is noticeable that certain players, as was Wilson, will be subject to gbh in order to take them out of the game. Many years ago, a left winger went around Tommy Smith in a Liverpool home game and the story goes that Smith said to the youngster “do that again and I will break your effing leg”. The youngster steered well clear of Tommy for the rest of the game. You will, I am sure, remember the 1974 Charity Shield Final between Leeds v Liverpool when Bremner and Keegan were involved in the infamous fist fight and were both sent off. Leeds were a nasty team in those days with Hunter bites your legs and Bremner the enforcers. The Daily Mail a few days later stated”Footballers who throw their fists at each other are symbolically licensing violence”. Both players were suspended for 11 games and fined £500 which was quite a substantial amount in those days.

Can Fulham fans now expect a bit of a Cup run? We’ve got probably the best squad we’ve had for a while, and no European commitments this season like those above us in the Premier League, nor International call-up’s likely (as far as I know). Every opportunity to surprise everyone!

Owen, wash your mouth out. From September I have been praising the team with the proviso that they have yet to realise how good they can be if they play attacking football. I have stated many times this season that their latent talent needs harnessing and it is up to Marco to make them believe and to do that he must adopt an attacking formation game. Alternatively, bring in a psychologist to resolve their lack of belief problem. I am sure other posters have also praised the team.

On Tuesday, a £2 billion auction of 30-year UK government debt sold at an interest rate of 5.198 per cent, which outpaced increases for other governments’ bonds. I don't think he played too badly, considering he was out for a while, and he looks fitter and he was busy without threatening on goal. Rowe was industrious and a good link up with Iwobi and co. Give him his dues i think Pereira had one of his better games and he did contribute an assist from a corner for one of our goals and we got to give him that one. Pereira was busy from the halfway line and linked up well with everyone. We would all like to see him connect a lot more with corners and assist and you got to admit that he was unlucky with a quality shot that hit the crossbar, that was a good one. Muniz? Why is no one talking about him and what a goal, it was top quality, whats wrong with you guys? Give credit where its due i say. I thought we had good manners etiquette and decorum. We don't want to get like that no class Brentford lot down the road guys. I also want to say a well done to our forgotten man Sessegnon and i think he should get a lot more games. Hereally has muscled out and he looks stronger and harder to shake off the ball. I always forget Sessegnon is here when i moan about recruitment. A nice MOTM for Sess and come on Marco get with the program and drop some who are not pulling their weight and play the boy genius!!!!!!

They also played a lot of kids so the comparison was not correct. I agree however there is a huge class gap between 9th in the Championship and 9th in the Premier League. We played a team with a few reserves in it, but it did not weaken it at all. Our under 21s and our under 18s are doing very well so even if we played dome of our best children we would probably have won but Marco wanted to be sure we won showing he would like to win the FA Cup.

I rather he stayed. But since he's not appreciated by many fans (unfair and I don't understand) and as a result, he probably wants to leave - yeah, take the money. I think we should sell Muniz (some strange reason, very much loved and highly rated by the fans!?) as well maybe for 10-15m. With the money, let's get Mcatee from Man City!

Think AP wants to move on, and if the case let him go. I’m afraid, in my opinion, he is not effective enough and doesn’t deliver quality into and around the box. Everyone was scared of losing Paulinho, but hasn’t been missed and isn’t taking Germany by storm. (Maybe suspended…). I would probably try and hang onto Muniz as I think he shows some potential, but would definitely elbow Vinicious as completely ineffective. Why we ever got him I don’t know. Agree a new forward/goal scorer is desperately needed, but not many available at our price range. Need to be proactive and not another short term loan deal.
posted by Sussexcol (Guest) - Thursday 09th January 2025, 3:22 PM

He is not appreciated because he takes all the the dead ball kicks and so far this season we have scored one goal from them He also looses the ball more often than most. He is not an effective asset in anyway. I am amazed anybody is willing to pay a lot of money for him and we have not bitten their hand off. It seems we will get what we paid for him at least which is fantastic.

I seem to recall AP had the most assists, including 6 for Mitrovic (40% of his goals that season!). A good dead ball player requires two to tangle.

That's two seasons ago. Pereira, for what ever reason. has lost it. Since his Brazil call up, his mind has been elsewhere.
posted by mwk (Guest) - Thursday 09th January 2025, 4:56 PM

We know a little something about why Pereira is not as effective now and it is a case that Marco is playing him in a much deeper role forcing him to get involved in more defensive duties than he has ever had to do. Sadly this is not enough to keep him because we have both Berge and Lukic and one of them can take on that role when both fit. What happens when we push Pereira further up again, will he score goals, do more assists and be more effective from dead balls and corner kicks? I have my doubts. Man Utd will have a fire-sale and there are a host of players that for various reasons fade away and don't reach top potential and their sale price is over-inflated. Has anyone heard about Anthony Martial? Yes i ask to sign him in my desperation for Fulham to have a back up striker but i haven't heard anything about Martial after utd. The problem with Muniz is his inexperience and he still hasn't learnt the nous or the art of being in the right place and right time a striker needs to arrive in the box properly. It is not all negative and there is a lot he can improve on and all is not lost. I suspect that Muniz would fit into the Arsenal set-up and score more goals because there are more like-minded players around him that can play pass football better than most and he would fit into that system. Muniz is a work in progress and it would be a gamble to get rid and replace for like in January, show me a striker that will get 20 the rest of the season.

Marco wants all his midfielders to be able to defend. I believe he has failed with Pereira to get him to defend effectively, Traoré is business in progress. Smith Rowe may be a better defender than midfielder.

Wasn’t this then converted to grants for buyers to purchase electric cars at a discount to encourage the sale of electric cars? Didn’t all companies selling electric cars receive the same funding? Randal Kolo is 26, and he plays for PSG and only had two appearances for them this season. His price is over-inflated just because of Man utd and Spurs who will go in at 77 million. He is the type of forward that would suit a smaller club under the radar like us Fulham but sadly he will go to either one of these two and stagnate and do nothing just like a host of players. It is sad because these bigger clubs try and plug rabbit holes and no amout of sticky tape can fix these two clubs right now.

Just for clarification Rooke’s scoring record is below:- 1936-38 Fulham Reserves. 16 1936-46 Fulham. 291 (212 goals during War) Arch bishop stated Ivor scored most goals for Fulham which was not the case. No play on words. Ivor is Fulham’s leading League goalscorer. Ronnie was an amazing player and played for England once during the War, against Wales. In 1945, he guested for Arsenal against Dynamo Moscow when football fans started to queue at mid-night in order to ensure gaining entrance. However, due to the fog it was suggested the game be postponed but this was overruled due to the large crowd. The match descended into chaos due to the thick fog with, the Russians resorting to every trick in the book, including throwing punches. Arsenal’s goalkeeper actually ran into his own goal post in the thick fog and was struck a number of times by Russian players unseen by the Russian referee. It was claimed that at one stage Dynamo had 15 players on the pitch and Arsenal’s George Murphy was sent off but just disappeared into the fog and remained on the field. Late in the game Arsenal were denied a penalty which left the Dynamo team 4-3 victors. Evidently, a most unsavoury display of a supposedly a friendly game.
posted by bigboy4650 (Guest) - Wednesday 08th January 2025, 5:21 PM

As an aside, Ronnie Rooke cost us £300 from Palace and we sold him to Arsenal for £1,000 plus two useless players. Arsenal in a perilous position in the 1946/47 and Rooke’s goals ensured they finished the season in a respectable position. The following season he scored 33 goals and Arsenal won the League. His 33 goals still stands as a record tally in a season for Arsenal and he scored a goal, on average every 75 minutes, which is unlikely to be beaten.

I get that a lot. Sometimes I just give up, and then when I look at the site later, there my posting is. I want to mention Notts Forest, I watched tonight's game against Wolves, who they thumped 3-0. In my opinion, we are a far better football team than Forest, and we should be comfortably sitting where they are in the table. The only difference between us is that they beat teams down at the bottom of the table, and for some quite unbelievable reason, we just can't. Why ?

Maybe some of the reason is the poor performance from areas required in modern day football. Goals from corners, Goals from free kicks, missing penalties, ( Perrera) goals like these change games and suddenly you are the front foot. Effective wide players, not full backs taking up wide areas, who score goals and can go past people, drive the opposition back 5 yards as Hudson-Odoi did last night, picking a pass, instead of lobbing the ball in to an area for 6ft6in centre backs to head away or the goalkeeper to claim. How many times do we see second ball around the oppo's penalty area actually won, this is when teams break on us. Saying all this we are unbeaten for a long time and play a lot of good stuff. We have a player Traore who can play wide, with great pace, who is not included, and frankly looks pretty disinterested, such a shame Silva is unable to get a tune out of him. As we all know interpretation of the rules is now outside of the pitch, and VARY from week to week. Serious foul play by Cairney or serious foul play against Robinson can be treated differently. The game has changed completely, offsides, handball, backpass, penalties. The media want goals to sell there packages, all the changes seem to favour this with forwards falling at the slightest touch. In other words cheating, including our team.

Football can be a simple game if we had applied that principal against some of the least talented sides we have faced at home this season we would probably have had 6/ more points on the board now think Marco should play the team at ffc according to opponent’s ability sure the likes of Southampton and Ipswich would not enjoy adama on one side and iwobi on the other giving the the ball to whoever our starting striker is not to mention robbo dashing forward but Marco will point to the table and say it’s our best start for a while and we although not winning much we’ve come through a remarkable run of games against the best teams on there day undefeated

We have Berge and Lukic and playing them together can make us go more defensive which isn't a bad thing. I like Cairney but he won't keep that level of play up that we need every week for 90 minutes and Cairney being the passing type we might need to go into the market and we will see if Marco thinks so? Smith Rowe is fresh from injury and he will need to step up to the plate and he will know that. Palinha came in and stepped up nd there was interest for him and he got his big move. Smith Rowe will know that his performance is not good enough for the bigger clubs to take notice and try to steal him with a cheeky offer. It's up to Smith Rowe and the position he plays is near Jimenez or Muniz and he will have to find ways of connecting with these target men...

As i have said many times we will never get a euro spot, we are inconsistant, to many draws to few wins, need a big guy up front to kill of the opposition. Why did marco play 3 center backs against this team, waste of time, much better after swopping one , so dont do it again marco , and just to note clubs already buying players , dont hold your breath.
Replies
Ok, I’ll try and help. The reason I think that we play three at the back is to support Castagne. Playing a flat back four is fine for Robinson and Tete because they are fast enough and have enough stamina to get up and back all game however, Castagne struggles doing that for a whole game so we play wing backs with the right side covered by Diop. It worked against Chelsea and Bournemouth and to some extent against Ipswich. When we switched to a flat back four yesterday we dropped pace in transition. Just a point of note though Bish, have you seen how many goals Raúl has scored this season? Ipswich played well, were on a bounce from beating our noisy neighbours and had a bit of luck. Bassey was unlucky not to hoof the ball upfield but slipped at the wrong time.
posted by MST (Moderator) - Monday 06th January 2025, 11:50 AM

Wonder what the reaction would have been if the same situation fell to Diop, all the haters out again. Bassey was instrumental for both instances for their first goal, heading into our crossbar then flapping at the clearance as well as diverting shot past Leno. Not fully sure about 3 centre halves at home, but very difficult to drop any off them at 5he moment. Diop has really stepped up and contributed to the cause. Need to sell on Vinicious and Perrera and buy/loan someone who knows where the goal is, Jiminez and Muniz try very hard but lack killer instinct. Not sure where we will get one from???

Haters? I don’t think so, just people’s opinions. Players make mistakes and it’s understandable fans mention the fact. Diop is indeed much improved , doesn’t stop him making mistakes, even if less frequently.

I have touched on this subject a few times and i really want to drill this home on here and i hope Marco has noted this because the transfer window is available and open. Sadly i have come to the conclusion that Tom Cairney is a sub and he is better used in the second half of games or when we know where we are or a situation needs adjustments for instance when we need a more subtle control of a game. Cairney is too slow in possession when we press and he loses the ball often, he is much better coming on as a sub when we need him. Harry Wilson is the same and unfortunately, he flatters to deceive when recently scoring great goals and we win games. This sends a signal to Marco and Harry rightly pushes for 90-minute selections but sadly it aint working and we need better reinforcements. It doesn't have to be 50 million pound buys, both Cairney and Harry can still do a fantastic job for Fulham but not for 90 minutes. I hope Marco sees the need for recruitment in these areas of the pitch. Smith Rowe is still not quite fit and we still don't know where or how to play him and at the moment he looks like the white elephant in the room and an expensive one. I don't see enough passion or eagerness from him and right or wrong position on the pitch, Rowe needs to step up and show us the money. A forward i think is on the cards and i think we should let Pereira go. Did a South American club offer 16 mill? I would take that and an ice cream...
Replies
Actually I thought TC had a good game yesterday and Marco was correct to sub him because he had covered a lot of the pitch and we needed fresh legs also HW is a huge asset when he moves in field later in the game because he's so alert quick and looking to score Traore on the right and HW are a handful for any team late in the game .. as we know !

Owen I think you are wrong about Cairney. He played well and controlled the game. I don’t remember him losing any balls. Yes, not the quickest but the most intelligent player in our team yesterday. I don’t disagree he isn’t our solution for 90mins but uncertainty unfair to put any blame on him for yesterday’s games. He can only feed ball to players in the best position he could find. The issue yesterday is the formation. Robinson isn’t a Nelson or Willian so we shouldn’t play him in that position and as a result we lost the his effectiveness. The worrying part for me is all our defenders have made stupid mistakes in the last few games. Thought we got rid of that calamity! Marco needs to sort that out!! But don’t blame Cairney.btw Wilson probably ran more meters than anyone else on the pitch.

Presume when berg is fit he will be back like Owen struggle to see how we play so average against lower teams presume we cant break down pack defences I guess trouble is we barely get near there goal maybey more pace down either flank agsinst these teams to stretch them. For me start Adama iwobi on the other side lower sides don’t like pace up against them in my opinion

Cairney and Wilson look better bringing them on in the latter stages and especially when we are under pressure. What did you think about Wilson out there for 90 minutes? We seem to get goals from Wilson when he comes on as a sub these days just saying. Good game or average Cairney cannot do 90 minutes every game. Both still have their uses but i think we need more...

Lol' i forget we have Nelson he is injured. We miss a Willian or a Kebano. I hope we sign somebody with a dynamic nature and somebody with more impact. By the way' i think Ipswich are decent and they give bigger team problems so maybe we should digest and move onto the next game...

I don't usually disagree with Owen, but I half disagree with him this time. I so agree that Cairney is no, longer a 90 minute player, although he is still a very good one, and he is still a very important part of our squad, and I will leave it to Marco's inside knowledge as how to use him. Harry however, is a different kettle of fish, as in my humble opinion, he should play in every game, from the start, unless not completely fit or injured. Harry can conjure a goal out of any situation, and he was so unlucky to have been brought down yesterday when about to score, in which could have been a red card by some referees. I'm pleased it wasn't as we would have probably have won with no credit. I do think however, that Troare should have been brought on earlier, as h frightens the life out of any club, and should definitely start against Watford. Yes we, could be having a better season, but still being in the top 10, is still an achievement, and that is only so far.

Sadly, I think you are making the same mistake that some people do with Pereira in that they are not playing in the position that we have been used to. They are both being asked to play deeper, win balls before the ball gets in our own half and then pick a pass. Cairney did this exceptionally well yesterday and Pereira has also played well in the position. My only caveat with Pereira is that he has little dead ball skill and should be taken off set pieces. Other than that, like Cairney, he is a work horse and has been invaluable in that position when we are unable to play Lukic and Berge together (our best mid-centre pairing). Even though Cairney had a good 60 minutes, I would possible have played Iwobi on the other flank as they tended to get in each others way occasionally. What do we know though!
posted by MST (Moderator) - Monday 06th January 2025, 12:27 PM

Cairney looks super fit a lot fitter than our most expensive player who needs to stop eating so much. I agree however, because of his age, he is not really a 90 minute player but he is certainly a 65 minute player who oozes class and calmness like any good captain should.

I don't mind being proven wrong with Wilson and i hope he plays all the games, he deserves to do so because he has gotten us some very important and crucial goals. I think he was a regular a long time ago before injury and he was dropped for a while. I vaguely remember that Wilson was a regular feature a while back and so may his great form continues. It's just something in the back of my mind that is saying that Harry Wilson is better used as an impact player who is more effective coming on. May his great form continue and all the best for him...

I do not understand either the ref or VAR did not send off the player who hacked down Wilson who was running through on goal a uncatchable speed toward goal. VAR said it was not a goal scoring opportunity, what planet do they come from. We would have surely beaten ten men.

Seems we agree however. The VAR pen was not the referees initial decision. My point however was the repeated awarding of wrong decisions to Ipswich and thus completely changed the flow of the game in their favour.

Silva to blame again ….tactics all wrong for a home game. Obvious to see against Southampton but does exactly the same today and then panics and throws on a load of attacking players. No coincidence we have lost points at home against lower placed teams who defend deep and we can’t hit them on the counter. Silva clueless to break down these teams.
Replies
Against on of the weaker teams again starts with a back 5 and doesnt star Adama, our most distructive forward by far. If Silva continues with these tactics this time next week we will be out of the fa cup and have helped west ham back on the road to their recovery.

This time next week we’ll be millyonairs Rodney! Teams trying to avoid relegation are always harder to beat, they fight for every ball and park the bus. We’ve done the same when beating the top teams. How do you think we made it to the Europa League final in 2010?? Woy was a genius at it for us West Brom and Palace but could not change when managing Liverpool and England which, is why he was always more successful with smaller clubs and with AC Milan in the Italian league (renowned for those tactics)….

We just couldn't thread it through the eye of a needle today and Ipswich's tactics restricted us to one attempt on goal from Jimenez in the first half. Yes our build-ups were slow but how can we thread the ball through 9 men back? I noticed that they pushed up a lot second half which caused us more problems and opened up more chances for them. I will skip the boring details. Basically, I think that Cairney and Wilson should stay subs and bring them on second half when we know where we are at if that makes sense. Every time Tom Cairney and Harry Wilson come on in the second half and do well we find a case that they should start 90 minutes and this is our problem. Wilson always get the media and camera attention for his second half goals and Wilson comments on why he should start but does he really want it or even have it in him? We still had enough of the ball to make a dent but we are finding it hard to break through defences and this is a ongoing problem. Smith Rowe who i thought could benefit from a start being fresh got one opportunity header which he put wide, maybe we can blame some rustiness first game back. This turned into a bad tempered game with a few dubious decisions from the ref and Marco blew his top for the most but we still shouldn't blame thses things what happen most weeks. Our build up and final game ball is not clinical enough and teams that set up like Ipswich only need 1-2 chances to make an impact and we could see just that...

Goals win games, oh yes Fulham played their pretty passing football, what was missing was the killer instinct in front of goal, also the build ups need to be quicker it’s all very well passing back and forth at the back but the opponents goal is up the other end of the pitch. We have now played their bottom clubs Wolves, Southampton and Ipswich at home and picked up 2 points, 7 points dropped, obviously not good enough.

Miserable day all round, as apart from being cold and wet, with a horrible drive home, we once again chucked points away, being so Fulhamish once again. We rode our luck, when Ipswich hit the post. We will try hard to move up the table, but to me a European placing is for the birds. We must now concentrate on our home FA Cup match against Watford on Thursday, and have a real go at the FA Cup this season.

We need to push and bring in a couple of additions. We need to get rid of Muniz, Vinnie and Cuenca all not good enough for top flight PL football, so we need a striker and a top centre back. We need to lose AP and bring in a top attacking midfielder especially as Tom is not getting any younger. And, we must be prepared to lose Robinson so a top left back needs to be thought about. Be interested to hear fans views on what business we should be doing this window.

Bit hard on Cuenca i think. Did a decent job against Liverpool and can also play left back.He was a very valid regular in la liga and should sooner or later get his chance

Armchair Club, I don’t think for one moment you’re insinuating that MST and I are armchair Fulham supporters, but I may be wrong. For your information I have held a season ticket for many years, to give you a clue, when I started watching Fulham Ian Black was our keeper, I can’t speak for MST, but I’m sure he also isn’t a armchair supporter, happy new year.

My very first game was Fulham v Manchester City, and Ted Hinton the Irish International was in goal, and Pat Beasley was our captain. Although Frank Swift the England keeper at the time was in City's goal, we drew 2-2, with Beasley getting the equalizer, near the end. I think it was the 1947/48 season ?

They say that Ruben Amorim is a tactical genius and he came into utd with a big reputation and we thought and some will say suckered into thinking that he would come in and re-start the glory days that Fergie brought to the table. The truth is if we don't beat them on Sunday the 26th, Jan at the Cottage, we would not have done our homework. Man Utd are weak at defending set pieces and corners and this cold wet rainy, and nasty weather is i think a surprise to Amorim who is ill-prepared tactically in the basics and the dark arts of bread-and-butter football and the truth is Muniz or Jimenez should have a field day and we should bully them at set pieces and corners if we get one and Pereira turns up. Lastly i would like to say that we do our defenders no favours sometimes and they face some criticism that is unfair. The truth is our big guys do a good job week in and week out at direct defending which we call bread and butter. No matter the combination, Andersen, Diop, Bassey, and Castgne all of them can defend a set piece and dig us out of the trenches. What we are not so good at is the technical stuff sometimes such as clearing and distributing an intelligent pass upfield as demonstrated by Diop, who comes in for criticism. The truth is i think Marco will weigh up all the negatives and plusses and the good manager Marco is will be happy with our defence in general. Don't get me wrong, our Fulhamish traits will always be there but we can forgive and be happy with our lot but not so Man Utd and Amorim who should go back to basics when defending a set piece that a local park team will know about. Food for thought...

Diop has been class for us this season and is getting pelters because one pass was intercepted. There was lots wrong with that passage of play; Lukic was out of position and Andersen got wrong side and is too slow to react so don’t just blame Diop. In terms of “the technical stuff” I’m sorry to say that that is nonsense, we pass out of defence really well and have conceded very few doing that. Also, did you see Cairney’s pass in the same game? Utter class!!

MST, I don’t often disagree with you, but I disagree when you state “Diop’s pass was intercepted “ the fact is Diop passed direct to a unmarked Bournemouth player, what followed is now history. I have seen Diop play for Fulham since his transfer from West Ham,he is at best a stopper, his distribution is poor, mostly takes the easy option by passing back or sideways, and last but not least, he can be found marking fresh air on many occasions.
posted by JRD (Guest) - Thursday 02nd January 2025, 8:56 AM

MST, I have to agree with JRD, Diop caused us to drop those 2 points against Bournemouth, with a dreadful pass, and I also thought that he was also responsible for their first goal as well. However, and of course it's far too late now, Bernd Leno, should have kicked the ball well into the Bournemouth half, as far away from our goal, as possible then this equalizer would never have happened. Maybe, Just maybe, we will have learnt our lesson, by once again throwing away two points, with stupid errors near the end, when we are in the lead.

Continue to say Diop has been without fault, until Andersen returned to the starting line up. 86th minute where was Robinson, half way up the pitch. Bassey as a central defender came across leaving his left sided position. We will see if Marco continues with his current system, with 3 central defenders and two wide wing backs. Personally I prefer a back four as Robinson can do both jobs, with his ability to get up and down the pitch. Hope Lukic Berg combination is available Sunday

Lukic/Berge combo for Sunday? I sincerely hope not! Why go more defensive against a Championship side that is trying to survive? They are not Arsenal and personally i want to see a lot more of us going forward. I am looking forward to seeing Smith Rowe back in action and hopefully this is a game that will suit him and he can come out and express himself.

We were controlling the game until the mistake was made, but everyone was making mistakes that could of cost the game apart from Cairney when he came on oozing class and steadiness, not surprising that he won the man of the match for his 25 minutes. It is rare for a substitute to be MOTHM.
posted by The Time Is Now - Friday 03rd January 2025, 10:28 AM

Lukic showed us all his ability to get forward with a pass leading to the winning goal, Berg also has scored goals and been much more of an attacking threat when playing for former clubs. Silva when playing three at the back, is reverting to a 3-4-3 with both full backs essentially wide operating in the midfield,to be effective, you need ball winners who can play. These to playing together can fit into any system, especially with Cairney, still able to show his class as a substitute replacement. Pererra does not win enough ball and is wasteful on release. He really must be a better player than recently he has shown, We know that he has indicated that pastures elsewhere would suit him. or ne might stay. With the injuries we have he is being shoehorned into the team, our results improve when he is not on the pitch.

The impact of that is massive as the cost of borrowing (for your mortgages) will not go down, and may even go up again!! Sorry to start with a sad note to the new year. Hopefully Fulham FC can buckle the trend and bring some joy to the very cold pensioners and skint mortgagees. HNY!

The only Labour Prime Minister was Tony Blair, who was an out and out capitalist at heart. Probably sowing the seeds for his life after retiring from politics. He understood the necessity to encourage wealth creators and was not beholding to the Unions. Since leaving politics he has become a multi-millionaire and is to b e admired for his acumen. Unfortunately, due to the failure of the Conservatives to behave during Covid, Johnson’s buffoonery, Truss’s stupidity plus their inability to serve the electorate they created the groundwork for a massive Labour landslide with just 33.9% of total votes. The Conservatives and Reform Parties polled 37.9% between them and won a total of 123 sears compared to Labour’s 410 seats. Does this appear strange to foreigners or even people living here. Yes, I know we have always operated first past the post system but sometimes it might be judged a tad unfair. Anyway, that is the system and we are now saddled with the old dogma Labour Party, policies dictated by their Union paymasters, policies of envy, taxing everything in sight, preventing wealth makers, crashing the economy and probably the £22 billion “Black Hole” is just a figment of the wicked witch’s imagination. I am not prepared to mention an unlimited amount of free glasses, suits, shirts, shoes together with a complete wardrobe for Stamer’s wife and Angela Rayner. No wonder Lord Ali was given a Downing Street pass to come and go as he pleased, probably to deliver more goodies for the Stamers. Frankly, I despair what has happened in the first six months of Labour’s reign and believe it will get worse before Stamer if forced to sack Reeves in order to protect himself. Just off the record, I was brought up in a Labour voting family but don’t mention it to anyone.

He is not convincing as a labour man and nobody can warm to this man who looks to the ratings before a decision is made. The scary thing about Labour is their number two if this flakey son of a toolmaker resigns. Just look at who the second commander-in-chief is? Angela Rayner the red dancing party queen who has a loathing and hate for posh people that is so real. Lol' don't be surprised if she puts up an extra tax on our posh-sounding Craven Cottage. Our only saving grace down here is the lack of room to swing a cat because this beady red-eyed dancing queen might have knocked up a few dozen homes with the help of a few poorly trained brickies straight out of a comprehensive school that is better than any posh school in their eyes nowadays. I am dreading it if the flakey Starmer decides to quit because Rayner will be a worse nightmare. The famous quote in football 'you don't know what you are doing' rings out load and clear. I'm so pleased that Ipswich beat Chelsea yesterday, and that's nothing to do, with my dislike of Chelsea, but more to do with Marco's mindset. Had Chelsea beaten Ipswich, comfortably last night, then no doubt Marco would have thought that Ipswich would have been easy meat, and we could have put out a weakened side. Now, hopefully we will take this fixture with a more serious outlook, and treat Ipswich as a top Premier League side, and not a Premier League struggler, so come on Fulham, just go out and get three points from this game, don't take it easy at all.

Southgate was bound to get one because he has been the most successful England manager past Alf Ramsey and his record shows that. Tactically, I think Southgate isn't the most adept and we can argue and debate that we should have made a final with all the young talent England possesses. Southgate was smart when he bowed out but can he manage lets say a team like Middlesboro and take them to the next level? I question if Southgate can do better the second time around at Middlesboro and that would be a good test for his management. Emily Thornberry? I am not one for flags or to display one because everybody points fingers and besides i am not that brave. I have no objection to whoever is patriotic who decides to put one up wherever. This woman sends a tweet mocking a house that puts up England flags and i ask myself the question, why a honour? None of her business who chooses to display a flag and she gets my goat and i think one of the most none deserving person to get honours. nuff said!!!!! If we dont get a high quality striker in the window we should try Harry Wilson as a number 9. He could be the new Michael Owen.

I wasn’t aware Harry liked a bet. Think he’ll be backing Zebos Beanos each way at Punchestown today?

I read that he's been released and now a free agent! Bring him back now!! give him a 6month contract. With Nelson out until Feb/March, he would be a perfect and a ready made cover!

I loved Willian and i miss him because he made things happen more than some of ours. I think that if he had stayed the likes of Smith Rowe would have learned a lot more about football, position, and timing where to be etc but sadly not to be. We took him in when he was desperate and he was brilliant but now he has made his bed. Goodbye Willian and thanks for your services....

I wouldn't worry too much about the form of Andersen, he is a top top defender and he will improve and get his form back. Andersen has been out for a while with an injury and he is just one of those players that need to work their way back in from the cold. You get this kind of situation with race horses that come back from injury and they just need a few soft races to bring them back to their best before the big race. Lol' so when your glue-pot of a horse loses in a race and then comes out to win the big one without you putting your last shilling on it, you now know a bit more 'Paddy, lol. Obviously, humans are not horses but we can still compare horse form with football. The fact and form is that Bournemouth came into this match against us with 6 games unbeaten and their away form confirms that they picked up 14 points and before ours they were 5 points behind Forest which is a decent tally and good form. Football will always bring out a debate and differences of opinion which is healthy and good on here in general. Apart from a few numpties we do okay on here. Food for thought...

When bringing Andersen back from Palace, we all knew his strengths and weaknesses. Good in the air, leader at the back, strikes a lovely ball long. No pace, bit of a problem with a high line. Weakest link at Chelsea when Jackson could run off him. Wrong side of Evanilson when the ball came in, no pace to recover. Hopefully he was not fully fit, but if not why did Cuenca not play. Also long diagonals to Traore not happening, as Traore is not selected, rightly so at present. With Lukic and Berg together more protection is supplied. Lukic showed his delivery for the late goal at Chelsea, that he can play anywhere in the midfield area. Diop has been outstanding for us to blame him for the draw for a misplaced pass that Silva wants us to use, I feel is unfair there were many players Andersen included involved before the goal was scored. Noted Robinson was half way up the pitch, completely out of the game in the 86th minute. Win some lose some draw some.

29 points from 19 games. Unbeaten in December (which included Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea away). More goals made and scored by subs than any other team in the prem but according to some of you lot; “our substitutions are woeful”. All of this whilst losing three of our best players in the world’s best league. Denny, you can praise our stopper Diop all you like, did he not pass direct to an unmarked opponent, which led direct to Fulham losing 2 points, I can’t believe that you stated, “This is the passes that Silva wants” surely you don’t believe that ?

Sorry JRD, did not explain myself, Diop has been excelling over the period Andersen has been injured, we all know that Marco Silva likes to play a passing game, we have had our share of ups and downs late on in games. Diop's mistake could have been covered if Robinson our left sided player where the goal was scored was not half way up the pitch in the 86th minute. Obviously if Lukic had not been in Chelsea's half in extra time we would not have won. This is how Marco Silva wants to play, 3 pts every game. This is how you get into the top half off the table. I try to look objectively at our players, Andersen against top quality strikers lacks pace. He was the wrong side of Evanilson and that caused the first goal, well taken as it was. Since he has been back, he has been the weak link in our defence. Overjoyed the way we are playing, best squad in my memory, going back to 1955. Long may it continue. Happy new year to all.

Come off it we were very lucky to get a draw as normally reliable players, not just Diop, kept giving the ball away. Bournemouth look the better team for virtually every second of the match.

MST, our beloved Moderator, you must accept that it appears that the Fulham team have a psychological problem. We have shown our ability by our brilliant display at the Bridge and yet the following game we are held to a goalless draw by the bottom club, Southampton. I have been a staunch supporter of our team on this board often stating we can beat any team but consider this is not reflected on a consistent basis. I predicted that we would reach 55 points when things did not look too promising although, as TTIN pointed out we have dropped 17 points from winning positions which was increased to18 points after the Bournemouth game. A number of players played below standard and we paid the price. Either the team does not believe in their latent talent when we struggle against teams such as West Ham and Southampton whereas Liverpool came from behind to beat Southampton and just thrashed the Hammers. To me, it demonstrates that Liverpool not only will not accept defeat, as against Fulham with ten men for nearly 70 minutes, but virtually demand victory every time they step onto the pitch. We need to seek that mindset but this can only be done if the players learn to believe in themselves.

Are they of any use anymore or the club have now scrapped the idea of rewarding the loyal fans with the small privilege of buying tickets first? Anyone know the clubs position on this?
Replies
I've gone to about half of the away fixtures so far this season. Loyalty points were used for all of them except Chelsea to determine the order in which you could purchase (of those I went to). My guess is Chelsea was a one off and LPs will be used again for away tickets in the future

Yes, Fulham scored from a corner. Bournemouth are a good side but if they defend against crosses whereby even Fulham can score like that then I think they will be in the market for a centre half soon.

Dynasties and dominance rule for so long, and after their time, everything comes to an end and we can see that going from the Man Utd era and Alex Ferguson. Man City are on the wane and Notts Forest who nobody is talking about way ahead of us in the table in second place and that is more of a talking point around a dinner table. Why beat ourselves up about Bournemouth who were a bit in front of us in the table before today. They beat Man Utd 3-0 at Man Utd, we rarely get a result there. That goal for an equaliser was exceptional from their Brazilian i wont attempt his name but all decent strikers should score like that. This is the difference between top strikers in Europe who can do this most days. Most strikers will take a shot directly at the goalie and thats the difference. Teirry Henry is a good example of a goal like that against us. We are decent too in the scoring goal department but we blow opportunities to kill the game off, we could have easily been 3-1 up before their goal. This will be our final match to end the old year and i think we can be satisfied and happy with our progress so far so good and so will Bournemouth, Forest, Brighton and Brentford. who have dropped off a little but these things happen. I think some will look forward interestingly to who the new striker is if we go in for one but there is a worry that we could lose Robinson and Robbo did a lot to enhance his CV by having a good game today. He and Iwobi prove that we are one of the best attacking forces on a football field especially down that left side. Robinson will leave a good enough impression for our second goal and what a peach of a pass to Wilson for his goal. Apart from his goal Wilson did not have a particularly good game. Sometimes we get fooled into thinking that Harry Wilson should start every game but i beg to differ. Our Harry is best coming of the bench but that is my opinion and some will say differently. After todays game and Robbo's performance i will say hand on heart, Antonee Robinson is the best attacking left-back in football and if we take anything less than 80 mill, we are robbed!!! I will say my bye-byes to Robbo here because i think he is gone! ROBBO' YOU ARE THE BEST AND I WILL MISS YOUR SURGING RUNS DOWN OUR LEFT SIDE. Farewell and i hope you go to the very best and not Liverpool....
Replies
Jedi, will be going nowhere, at least not until the summer. He is enjoying a bonus season, and he probably wouldn't settle at another club, like he has here, and it has taken a very long time, since he has worked with Marco, who has made Robbo the player that he is now. Someone in the crowd today, mentioned Palhinha, and do know what, I had honestly forgotten about him. So, have we missed him ? A gigantic NO ! !

I still think we need to sell Vinicius and bring a striker in. I see in paper Federico Chiesa of Liverpool wants to leave. He would be a great acquisition. While not proven in the premier league, he’s still relatively young and quality is clear in his Juventus days. Marco can do his magic on him! And he could be available for £10-15m. Which still leave Liverpool with a small profit.

Marco played the wrong system today and gave Bournemouth the impetus from the start. Our midfield was non existent. We cannot play three centre backs at home and lose the midfield. By the way, credit to Bournemouth they look a decent team, very well coached.

Bournemouth are a good team with a good manager and Marco was out thought tactically and we should have lost but scraped a draw. That is a sign of a good team who can still produce enough to get a point when seemingly being beaten.

Bournemouth slightly better than us first half but Marco got the team up for the second half and we were the better side overall in 90 mins. Could’ve, should’ve buried them in the second half and only the mistake let them back. Boys will be gutted again but hey we beat Chelsea 4 days previously.

Recently, TTIN listed all the games where we have dropped points from a winning position. The total was 17 points to which another was added today. In addition, our display against Southampton was mediocrity personified where the majority of our players appeared in a hurry to start the Christmas break rather than performing for the people who pay their wages. Yet, four days later the team worked their socks off against a star studded Chelsea team, having to come from a goal down. This result inspired me to believe that we were capable of beating anyone but failed to factor in the “Fulhamish” factor which was once again on display today. Our first half display was below par and I thought we were fortunate to be in front at the break through Jiminez’s header. Watching the game progressing almost filled me with dread as our passing remains a serious problem. Bournemouth duly equalised through Evanilson who was given too much room leaving Leno no chance with a delicate chip. Just as I had settled for a 1-1 draw Robinson once again turned provider with an inviting cross which was firmly dispatched by Wilson, his second headed goal in consecutive games which must be a record. Unfortunately, once again we failed to close the game out and Ouattara came of the bench to equalise for Bournemouth. The horror of this was a terrible pas from Diop straight to a Bournemouth player who had space and time to set up the equaliser. Diop was under no pressure and could have moved up field with the ball and the set up an attack. Why, why oh why did he not engage the brain before aimlessly kicking the ball to an opponent. Our last six games have produced four draws and two wins when in theory it should have been the other way around. How can a team full of potential not have the inner belief in their latent talent to be more consistent. Maybe, they need to understand that they are letting the fans down when we all know they are capable of beating anyone.
Replies
The answer to your question is he hasn’t got a brain to use, as I stated earlier, this useless distributor of a football robbed us of 2 points today and 2 places up the table

Come off it we were lucky to get a draw as we kept giving the ball away from the pressure Bournemouth put us under. When they had the ball they looked far more dangerous than us. We gave them two goals and we scored two decent goals. Realistically we could have been three down at halftime. I can only think we had given everything against Chelsea and had nothing left. It was a dreadful performance.

Guy's Bournemouth are decent and they press high. I agree Diop didn't have his best game today but Andersen was just as bad, sometimes we revert back to type and our Fulhamish traits creep back in. We are a decent team and in a short space of time our expectations have crept up, we now crave for more much more. Even if we get the over-priced Rashford on board our problems will not vanish away because we play a risk and reward philosophy and we know what comes with risk. Going forward we are a dream and we look fantastic but defensively i guess we will always have that weakness or soft spot and we would not be Fulham otherwise. Happy new Year when it comes around....
